I just ordered the new Italian made Focus razor. This aluminum razor takes 1/2 DE blades and has a pivoting head, like the One Blade. Not much buzz out there, and I'm surprised. Anyone else order one or have one?

I ordered one in red today after watching the YouTubes on it. Looks interesting. The same company makes a shavette as well but I'm not gutsy enough to try that.

I just don't get these half blade razors. What is the advantage? It seems it would have the shave quality of a DE razor but you can only use one side of the blade.

I hear you Phil. For me I quests it's more about the novelty or the fact it's another "gadget". I like tinkering around with oddball razors. For example, I like modifying blades to use in the Gibbs. And I love the swivel head on my Peroni. I'm probably obsessive! Smile

I can definitely relate. Please report how it works for you! Cool

Phil,

The appeal is that the shave geometry is that of an SE razor with the blade not costing as high as an SE blade and with the variety of a DE blade. In this case, the pivoting head makes this even more unique, hopefully similar to a OneBlade type experience. Granted, SE blades are thicker than DE blades, but many shavettes use half DE blades successfully.

Judging by a few comments I've gotten over the years a few cartridge shavers finds the broad head of a classic DE to be confusingly wide. The half-blade razor may be an attempt to sway those shavers over. Maybe.

I have seen precut DE blades for sale for use in shavettes, so if you don't mind the limited selection there is no need to break your own blades.

While I'm not likely to get one myself, I enjoy the fact that razors like this is available for those who wants them Smile

Looks nice. Similar concept to the Rocnel 1/2 DE blade setup.

Any razor that requires modification to a blade is not on my list but I wish good shaves to anyone who gets one.

1/2 cut blades are commercially available. so no cutting by the end user is needed.    I got some for my Rocnel razor,  small box of 100 by Derby.

Yep, but that means an additional blade to manage. Wink

and a choice limited to what I would consider inferior blades (Shark and Derby)

Had they made this to use the Schick injector blade, I might be interested.

Grabbed the last red one.

I really like my focus slim shavette. I would say even more so than my feather artist clubs (have both ss and dx). The slims angle holder is much more similar to a regular straight.

I got the dynamic because it's from focus and because it has so many more blade options.  I'm really hoping that it's as mindless as my OneBlade for a quick shave day.

As much as I love my OneBlade, when I run out of fhs blades I'm not sure I'll buy more... Got a master pack of fhs blades so I'm set for a while....

To me it seems that the main benefit of an SE razor is the marvelous GEM PTFE blade and its incredible cutting power, mostly caused by its being thick and very solid.  Because of this thought process of mine, I can't even imagine wanting to try a razor that took a half a DE blade.  On top of that, the razor is not attractive to my eye.

It will take me a while to get used to this, I have not used a pivot razor for a good while. Medium aggressive but super lightweight.

Focus recommend halved DE blades rather than the Shark/Derby Saloon blades. The break creates a spring to help secure & position the blade.

"For proper fixing it is advisable to use whole universal blades broken in half; this creates a slight curvature of the extremities in the area of the break, which once secured at the base of the razor head, creates a light pressure during the insertion of the movable head, this desired spring effect is essential & necessary for precise fixing & correct positioning of the blade."

33g solid anodised aluminium with stainless steel fixing pins in the head.

Best regards,

Paul

The pivoting head, light weight, slim profile of the head, and manner of inserting the blades are all interesting features.

Although some may characterize this razor as using a single edge blade, it's a double edge blade cut in half.  This does not confer the benefits of a true single edge blade, such as a Feather AC, which stem from the blade being thicker and stiffer.

There is an element of the cool gadget factor at play here.  We'll look forward to you guys reporting on how it shaves and what benefit it offers over a regular DE.
