August is off to a good start with brushes. On the left is a custom handle carved by hand out of Purple Heart. I have been calling this one The Plum and it sports a 26mm two band knot with 53mm of loft. Thanks Jim. The rest of the haul came from fine gents in the Shave Nook. In the middle is an Elite Razor brush. The original owner says he used it a few times and it seems like new to me. I don't know why he wanted to sell it, but I am glad he did. I used it today and it is amazing. The knot is a 26 mm Manchurian White with 50mm of loft sitting in a great, tall, faux horn handle. Bob could charge a lot more than he does for these and they would still be worth it. Thanks Kevin. Everyone knows what the one on the right is. Acquired new and unused from another one of the great guys in the Nook. Thanks Jason. Also just in is a Fine lather bowl and some Stirling aftershave. Thanks go out to Mike.

Here's a few of mine. Leo Frilot is the brushmaker, except for the restored made rite. Got a hold of an Aristocrat #16 and a Blackbird too so far this month.[Image: b57350c9c5f540304dc077474e384543.jpg][Image: 25d3b72fd2eae0805a96ef618bda3a1d.jpg][Image: 60cf0f6be3e3a8136b178223ea05f996.jpg][Image: f2bdf5dedfbeb4ee75e623a78a417a6b.jpg][Image: 79da5735b0fb53dbbd6d36fda445ac80.jpg][Image: b0adc6a09935e29967ebaafc63e43230.jpg][Image: 529035cbe33d85fe9226161bbbbb9fae.jpg][Image: 7e86905a49458d4469bb10ddb2b53eba.jpg][Image: b751471fe3792b6640c278f0bb1f59d1.jpg]

Today I went to the Lone Ranger parade in downtown Oxford, MI and picked up a soap from a local artisan: Sassy-Anne's Drunken Pirate Silk Shaving Soap.  I came home and received a package from Bullgoose containing an Asylum Shave Works Evolution Stainless Steel Black Oxide Razor.  I waited for the razor to arrive so I could shave with it.  Honestly, the soap did not lather very well and I would not recommend it.  I hope they improve the performance since they are located very close to me.  On the other hand, the Evolution razor worked well - even with using the disappointing soap.  There were some imperfections in the black oxide finish, that I think should not have been there, but that aside, I was very pleased and happy with the first shave.

Found this in a shop this afternoon - Cambridge, Wisconsin

Don't know whether to use it or save it for a display/posterity.

Not sure. Can an old soap even be used after a certain number of years?

There's only one way to find out. I've heard it is possible for soaps to last a very long time if stored in steady, fairly cool conditions.
