Yes,I know,I like the polls and also the "versus"...Biggrin

Easy and simple question, what kind of badger hair do you like better, two band badger hair ? :

or 3 band badger hair ?

I used to be a two band badger hair lover, and almost 60% of my actual shaving brushes has this kind of hair, and I have tried more two band badger hair brushes than three band.Actually,I was a very die hard face latherer, and I liked extra backbone and a little bit of scritch.Of course, there are different types of two band badger hair, and some has extra soft tips and less backbone and better flow.

These days my personal preferences have change and I prefer 3 band badger hair shaving brushes, with flow, but not floppy and velvety soft tips, and I dont do circular movements but "to and fro " (painting strokes) ones.

As I said, both 3 band and 2 band badger hair has different types, but Im more into good flow and enough backbone,as well as super soft tips, and I find that in many 3 band badger hair brushes. In 2 band,Vie Long european white is maybe my favorite, since has flow and backbone equally.

So,whats your favorite type of badger hair and why?

I'm a 2 band fan here for the very reason why you liked it. It seems to suit my preferences much more than 3 band.

I'd love to see a video of you lathering in a to and fro style Teiste.

My actual camera, for some unknown reason, refuses to take videos anymore...Facepalm I have to make one very soon, and I will use that method.

Generally, I would say I my choice would be 2 band hair to 3 band. However, I seem to be in a transition of really starting to like (and prefer) certain 3 band badger knots.

My preference leans towards 2 band.

My favourite knot is currently Simpsons Manchurian, which I class as 2 band. In the Simpsons Super range I definitely prefer 2 band over 3 band. However, I do really like Simpsons "Best" which of course is 3 band.

Generally I find Rooney 3 band too soft and too reliant on density for backbone, so I definitely favour 2 bands here and especially Rooney Finest, which again I'd class as 2 band.

From the M&F range, 2 band is what I'd choose. Mr Sabini's 3 band is (like) Rooney Super.

I preferred the Thater 2 band over the 3 also.

The Shavemac D01 2 band was the only 2 band that I didn't prefer to the equivalent 3 band, but that's because the loft was too short for my tastes.

So with the exception of Simpsons Best and Plisson HMW, I do seem to have a preference for 2 band.

I have four 2-bands and six 3-bands in my collection. If I am using soap, I reach for a 2-band. For cream, I reach for a 3 band and for a croap I use either. On the other hand, if I want to whip up a lot of lather fast with a cream, I'll use a 2-band.

I without a doubt favor 2 band knots in just about every brand of brush with the exception of Shavemacs DO1 2 band. Its just too stiff and scritchy for my taste.

If I have to choose one type, it would be the 3-band because my best 3-band silvertips feel so luxurious on my face. Tomorrow I may feel differently....

I agree, if you go for the stock shavemac lofts.

I have Teiste's old D01 and he chose to have t with a longer loft. To me this brush feels very similar to Simpson Manchurian.

Depends on my mood that morning when I reach for a brush, after a while you get to know the character of each brush you own, so starting the day is like calling an old friend to chat with. I dont have a preference I enjoy all my brushes.

If I must pick only one, it would be Simpson Manchurian, technically a 2 band. Like many others however, I greatly enjoy a variety of badger hair options, including Simpson Super 2 band and Best, Vie-Long 3 band Silvertip, Thater 2 band, and others.

You are the 3rd person I know who compares shavemac D01 two band with Simpson Manchurian...
