Hey guys, I'm a dedicated DE shaver and almost never use an SE.  Having said that, I am intrigued by the release of the Above The Tie G1 razor, which I believe is the first modern razor that uses standard SE blades.

So I wandered over to this forum to find out opinions about this razor from the SE guys.  Imagine my surprise when I see.......*tumbleweeds*.........and hear.......*crickets*..........

What's the deal?  Is the razor not yet released?  Has nobody tried it?  If it has been released and somebody has tried it, what do you think of it?  Enquiring minds want to know.

There is at least one thread with progress notes from Stan and it's up on his site for pre-order.

The ATT G1? are you speaking of the one that will use Gem razor blades yes? Its not the first modern one, look at Blackland and PAA Gem razors too. They actually look more promising 3  piece razors vs the ATT G1 that is 4 piece, also the heads on the Blackland and PAA look much more slimmer too, like big time slimmer

I believe the ATT G1 is a 3-piece razor.  I looked at the two single edge concepts from Blackbird and PAA, but when I saw the G1 I went ahead and pre-ordered as I liked the design better.  It also doesn't have the end tabs on the base plate that help hold the blade in place which I dislike (YMMV).

As far as I know neither the Blackland nor the PAA is currently available.  Am I wrong?

None of the three are currently available.

ATT G1 is technically a 4-piece razor.  It has a little toggle 'thingy' that attaches the head to the handle.

In addition to Shane's razor, I am really looking forward to the Rocnel Gem razor.

I have been a gem razor user for years, for the past dozen or so years I've been using the Ever-ready Streamline in my rotation and use it about every 10 days.

I pre-ordered the G1 and do hope that for me it's a good shaver and as far as the Rocnel it does have a unique look. What I like about the gem blade is that it is thick and rigged and the feed back I get in the Jr and especially in the Streamline. For me i,m excited that the Gem is making a comeback. So gentlemen let the games begin

See, this is why I shouldn't open these threads - I was curious about the G1 and now I see there's an upcoming Rocnel, which looks very interesting. I always thought SEs were a way to save money because it used to be just vintage and the Cobra, but now...

Yes. I need to check with Murat for an ETA but am hoping to have them in a few weeks.

The retail on the Rocnel Gem razor will be $210.00. I will see if I can get some more photos.

Augh! These upcoming gem razors are the only things keeping me from ordering an asylum Rx. Which is good for my wallet.

Hello,

I shaved with G1 last night and got a great shave. There is no production problems I was just doing a few refinements. It would have been going out sooner but I wanted to make sure it was "right". This is the first time I have worked with the Gem blade format. It does have its on unique properties to work with. After showing it at The Big Shave West 3 in Pasadena last month. I had the chance to watch other guys handle it and I could see some areas of improvement. Those minor changes has been incorporated and will be in the razor you receive. The last change was altering the slope of the cap. We are basically done with any additional tweaks and will likely give the approval for active production tomorrow.
Sorry for being so OCD about it but for some reason this has proven to be the most difficult razor design. I just want it to a razor you will love.
Stan
