Just curious about how those of you that have tried a Pils feel about it? Is there a razor you would compare it to in terms off aggresiveness or lack there off, im especially curious if its more or less aggressive than the tradere o.c.

I haven't used my Pils in a long time... I recall it being mild.

It's a beautiful instrument, I may need to re-acquaint myself!

I truly like the look of the Pils, but sometimes I wonder if its worthy the almost 300 bucks which cost. However, its such a stunning looking razor.

I had one and sold it. The handle is a bit too thin which made gripping it difficult. It is mild and requires a shallow angle. The Pila that I had also rusted easily

So would the Tradere OC be the most aggressive of the stainless variety?

Well... The early iKon open comb was quite aggressive. The latest tradere open comb is less aggressive than the original although still fairly aggressive

Triad: In my experience (2 Ikons, Weber, Feather), the Tradere is the most aggressive.

The iKon Modern was made to compete with the Pils and was fairly successful doing it. Both I understand were on the mild side. The Modern is still available from some vendors and cost much cheaper then the Pils. Also the rust problem Pils had was due to bad welding. The Modern doesn't use welding. Its 100% stainless.

Having tried both, I'd recommend tracking down an iKon Modern. The handle is much easier to hold and the build quality of the iKon is superior at least to me. Triad, from reading your posts here and other sites, I'm not sure you'd be happy with either honestly. They are both very mild razors. Beautfiul razors, but rather mild.

I never knew the pils was as mild as the ikon.

I had the ikon modern but it was a very mild razor and just would shave close enough. I was looking scruffy by the end of the day as I had a bit too much of a shadow.

The ikon was built very well. I was very impressed.

A good friend has it now and loves it.

The Pils is one of my favourite razors. It's mild but not as mild as the Feather or a Gillette Adjustable. After some shaves you get the right angle and you can get easily a BBS.

The distance between safety bar and blade less higher in the Pils as in the iKon. Probably that is the reason that the Pils gives me better feedback.

The heavy head and the thin long handle felt strange in the beginning but I also get used to it.

The Pils is by far the best manufactured steel razor that I ever had in my hands. And I never had a rust problem with my Pils razor.

Thanks for the responses i had a feather a while back it was way to mild, tried a tradere oc better but gave me razor burn with all the passes i had to make and probably the weight but the early ikon oc sounds interesting i sure dont think i would buy a Pils i just havn't heard much about them. I really wish someone would make a ss razor equivelant of say a joris!!

does this newer Tradere OC equal to a FaTip OC in smoothness, or does it have a smoother feeling?

I love my Pils:

There was a learning curve with this one, you have too change your technique & angle then let the weight of the razor do it's work.

I also found that I get a better shave's using Personna Red's blades, I have not had any problems with rusting. Just rinse and dry after use.

Beautiful to look at and use.

i still have my Pils and i agree with Alex that it is the most beautifully crafted razor that i have seen. It is a head-heavy razor that takes a bit to get accustomed to, but it is a good shaver; a bit mild for me, but if you add one shim to it, it can improve the shaves quite a bit. It is very expensive, but you can see why when you get it. If you can find a second-hand one, then i say try it.

* James, the Tradere OC is a very heavy razor and it is completely different to the FaTip. i found the FaTip to be a tad more aggressive, but not much. For smoothness, it really depends on you and your technique. i found the FaTip to be a bit smoother or easier to handle.
