I use it with a brush and face lather. You can smear KMF on your face and then lather with a brush or just pump it onto a brush or both.

Edit: I see CM beat me to it. Oh well! I'm leaving it.

Read the label. It says to use it w/o the brush, just finger lathering, and that will work after a fashion. You'll lose cushion and gain lubricity, but it will work if you have good control of the pressure exerted on the razor. If not, you'll hate that way to use it. I used KMF this way because I had to experience what the instructions would lead one to. It doesn't take a great deal of product to finger lather. Certainly don't use a full pump every pass; you'll be using it as a lubricant, nothing more.

But yes, to answer your question I use a brush. KMF is a really good product, and given even half a chance to produce lather it'll respond. Use a brush and make an ultralather and get ready to be blown away. It's really good stuff. It's not as expensive as the imports because it's made here and doesn't need to be shipped across the pond. That gives the illusion that it's inexpensive and not as good as the imports. It just doesn't double in price before it hits the retailers shelf; That makes it inexpensive for us. It's about time we got something for shaving that was relatively inexpensive, great, and widely available.

I have extremely soft water and 1/2 a pump is plenty to give me enough ultralather for at least 3 passes and I don't need that many. If you have hard water you'll need more product. KMF compares favorably to maybe not the very upper echelon of products (like MdC) but it's really good cream and holds it's own against most other products.

Have fun with it!

KMF is really underrated and misunderstood. Using it without a brush is fine but you will not get the full effect and it does produce some wonderful lather with very little effort.
When I am testing out other soaps/creams, I have my KMF bottle standing by just in case a need a squirt of it to finish the shave. My favorite is pomegranate.

With a brush Andrew. One of the best shave creams around and very inexpensive.

With a brush, of course.
It seems that it can be used without a brush, but... where's the fun in that? Tongue

* What! Whenever that may be! Are you mad, Andrew, or are you still recuperating?!

There's always one guy, right? Yea! It gets to be me this time! I honestly could not get a lather I would enjoy shaving with from KMF. Tried it in the scuttle, tried it on the face.. Tried all the usual tricks for difficult products. It just refused to work for me. But, on a bright note, my wife really likes it brushless so it found a happy user in our house, and she even had me get her all the scents!

I have only used KMF with a brush. Easiest lather to make.

Works fine either way.

Without a brush, it actually seems slicker to me. Can also be used like a pre shave oil.

My first try with KMF and a brush did not go well--used too much cream and the lather was sort of goopy. I now use about only a little (not measured but about 2/3rd of what I used with other creams - Proraso, Arko, MusgoReal) and the lather comes up very nice. Performance is very good, maybe even as good as Musgo Real. YMMV.

I never got the KMF figured out with a brush, but I was just starting out then too. I keep telling myself to go back and figure it out since everyone loves it. That said I do keep a bottle around because when I'm running late I can do a 2 pass shave without using a brush and its pretty quick and cleanup is a breeze.

I've only used it a time or two, but this thread has got me thinking it's time for another try. I bought two scents to try: lavender and green tea. I shaved using a brush with the green tea, and it was a DFS. I wasn't impressed enough to shave with the lavender, but that may very well be due to something new and more exotic arriving in the mail...you know how it goes.
Anyway, I'm glad to know that it is a good product. Also, as one earlier post mentioned, it's nice to have an extra quick brushless shave "up your sleeve" just in case. I will try it again, but with a brush I think - give the lavender a try.

I lather my KMF Patchouli in a bowl and it comes out great.

As mentioned it provides good slickness and cushion. They make a great cream. Like it's performance better than some other creams that I've paid more for.
