I was checking out RE's website and facebook page in regards to the Rex Ambassador and it got me curious.  I kind of assumed the razor was polished, but looking at their fb page it makes me wonder.  Is the razor they show on their website chrome plated?  Are the razors being shipped with a satin finish?  I also noticed that the pic of the base plates shows a lot of the lather release slots don't seem to be uniform.  Just curious if any one else noticed or is more informed.

No worries here either... especially with the fact that I requested mine to be plated with Rhodium. Super stoked to see it when it comes.

I'm really interested to see the finished product.  Looks like a nice design.

While I haven't pre-ordered one personally, I am not worried at all. I highly doubt Matt let something this exciting be done poorly.

Sounds like Matt is an "honest optimist".  Possibly some OCD and more complex engineering than planned.  The B&R Adjustable does not seem to be in high volume production yet and the Rockwell Model T does not seem to be in any production yet.  Perhaps the old secrets of Gillette are staying secret or difficult to reproduce in today's world.

I would also be disappointed if I placed a pre-order on August 24 to find out a potential month delay.  I hope the Rex razor is successful and leads to more adjustable and TTO razors.

The Ambassador design is based on the Gibbs, whose patent and production predates Gillette by two decades (1935/1937). It's a less complex (and less problematic) design but apparently a bear to do on a budget with quality materials, as Matt is not the only one to make the effort.

Thanks for the history - my knowledge of vintage razors is limited to Darwin and Gillette.  I do recall Gibbs mentioned in a post and NCIS. - just assumed a Gillette based design with Gillette numbering.

Nice seeing high quality stainless domestically produced razors.  Obviously modern computer based manufacturing has not helped all production issues.

The Gibbs is supposedly one of the very best designs to have ever hit the market. As it's French made, not too many crossed the pond, so still relatively unknown and not often offered for sale at the bay or discussed at the various forums. A google search has very little to offer also. If it's as good as owners say it is, I think it's kept a secret to keep prices low as they are cheaper to buy than a FatBoy or a slim.
From some questions I have asked around, the Gibbs shaves more smoothly and closely than the Rockwell 6S.
I bought a good condition Gibbs no.17 yesterday from France, way below current market prices and I'll be putting it to its paces when it arrives and report. I'm sure RE have done their research when they designed the REX, as it has to be super efficient and successful to sell at this price. so my estimation is, if it's as good as the Gibbs it's going to be a hit even at this price which I find on the expensive, to very expensive side, but experience shows Razor Emporium know what they are doing.

Since Matt is making some changes in the design such as pictured above, my hope and expectation would be that these would be improvements over the Gibbs (hopefully not cost cutting measures). I enjoy my Gibbs a lot, I'm pretty sure you will as well.
