So far DEs for me but I'm still hoping i find a gem razor that makes the gem blades work for me.  My overall preference is the feather AC blades...but that's a different poll!?

I believe that Feather AC blades are injector blades not Gem blades. I find that Gem PTFE blades are smoother and I get more shaves out of them than DE BLADES.

After three years of trying GEMs in many models of GEM/ER razors, I have settled on DE shaving as my preferred method. I don't get smooth, comfortable shaves with the GEM blades like I do with DEs. But the GEM razors look so darn cool that I often open my razor drawer just to look at them. Fwiw, I really enjoy my Schick injectors and have a preference for Chicks. Interesting (or not) while I don't like Personna SE blades, I'm just nuts for the American made Med Preps and Lab Blues. The IPs however, are my number one DE.

Right, we were suggesting them as a third group (just not part of this poll, keeping it simple). Smile

Hahaha, this brings back memories, of my golden youth. Thank you, Nero, for posting this thread.  To be honest, I learned how to shave, with a GEM style razor.  I love these razors, and, blades, but, they are simply too sharp.  They are made by the same company, as Personna, which means, they were never made to be shaving razor blades.  They are sold as such, but, all of the American Safety Razor Company's blades are designed, and, manufactured, for industrial, and/or, medical purposes.  Simply too sharp.  I love them, though, for the memories.

Found the Gem blades being thicker to work better on thicker older ie greying whiskers.
I agree that the razor plays a bigger role with regards to the SE blades. Some razors such as the older Techs do a good job of holding down thinner blades and minimizing flex aiding in a smoother cut when tackling coarser hairs.
I moved forward my last OCMM as complacency and overconfidence with it had led to many nics. A definite no up or against the grain with a OCMM.

You read my mind.

The GEM blades (because thicker and hence more rigid) are very good for tougher beard.

Blades are at their best when held firmly (preventing the chatter), so finding a razor that does this is Very important.

Right now, for me, the two razors that do this the best are Blackbird for DE and Sabre for GEM.
Shane is on to something.
