Back in 2008 and 2009, the Gillette SharpEdge (Yellow) blade was all the rage. About the only place you could reliably get them was at Connaught Shaving in England and they got great reviews. Like everything in our flavor of the month hobby, they quickly faded from the limelight and were overtaken by the original Super Iridium blades.

Sometimes it is difficult to separate hype from reality but, these blades are the real deal. I have been using them exclusively for the past month in a variety of razors and never fail to get an excellent shave. They really deserve more buzz than they are getting.

Other than when I was experimenting with a bunch of different blades in my Evolution I really haven't used the Yellows consistently in quite some time. They're sharp for sure. Yet I find these blades' effectiveness to be very dependent on angle. I still have a few tucks in my credenza. Maybe it's time to give 'em another go.

I agree, Phil.  I used to use them nearly exclusively, moved to other (still very good) blades, then returned to them along with Gillette Platinum and Silver Blues.  Very nice, consistent shaves with Mr. Yellow.

I'm still a beginner, but after extensive testing early on......
I settled on a three blade "rotation" if you will.
In order of preference:
     POLSILVER Super Iridium
     Kai
     Gillette 7 O'clock Yellow

Each of these is just a little different in my Merkur 38C, but all give DFS. I just like the POLSILVER a little better overall.

Started wet shaving with a Maggards starter kit + some additional blades. Grabbed this one at random after a month or so into blade exploration and my life was changed. Never before have I experienced such a smooth and effortless shave. I still try others, but my shaves have never been better than with the Gillette 7'Clock Yellow.

I pulled out a 7 o/c Yellow (SharpEdge) for use tonight.
Also, pulled a 7o/c Black (Super Platinum) to compare tomorrow.

It's been a long time since I used either.
I settled on the Gillette Platinum blades very early and only recently started exploring... they're still #1.

A really nice blade.  I found the GSBs a touch smoother and gravitated to them but the yellows are pretty nice.  Very sharp.

Excellent shave with the Yellow.
I might use it again tomorrow instead of switching to Black immediately.

I have a few hundred and the yellows are definitely a favorite in a rotation of quite a few brands. Great days for wet shavers this past decade. A far cry from the 1960s.

The Gillette 7 O'Clock sharpedge yellow was the second blade I ever tried (feather was first) and I absolutely loved them.
I bought 300 and still have some of them.
I still rotate them frequently.

They were my first bulk blade purchase too.

Very good blade. One of my favorites when I was still using modern ones. In fact my first favorite and remained so although it later shared top spot with a couple of others.

I recall that some years ago there were regular threads in the forums comparing the Gillette 7 O'Clock blades.  Yellows v Greens v Blacks v Blues v Silver Blues, etc.  Many guys thought the Yellows were the sharpest.  The Yellows are still one of the best blades available.

I used the Yellow two days, then used the Black (Super Platinum) for yesterday's shave.

The Yellow was very sharp and smooth.

The Black was a completely different story. It's been a long time since I had so much razor burn. Yesterday was not a comfortable day.

Yeah, the Blacks weren't my cup of tea, either. I appreciate the Yellows' sharp smoothness for the first shave. The second shave is another thing altogether. For me Silver Blues are a better option when talking about Russian made blades.

Well looks like I'm going to have to pull out a pack of yellow 's and give them a try. For years now I've been using Super Iridium's exclusively. I think I bought about 1000 of them when the first rumor about them being discontinued came out. I just bought a bunch of Nacet blades that I really like. I should a pack of yellow's here somewhere. It would be fun to experiment again.

That's a good point, Charlie. My second shave with the Yellow was not as great as the first, but thought it was my technique. I will keep this in mind for the next one I pull out.
