Hello all.
I'm a transplanted Scot living in Canada (Toronto, Ontario) and I've recently discovered wet shaving (again, sort of).
30 years ago I tried shaving with a Gillette and Wilkinson blades and canned foam. It didn't really work for me and I switched to a Braun electric razor, this didn't really work either as it just couldn't deal with the cross grained hair on the neck, so I ended up finishing each of those shaves with a disposable on the neck.
A couple of years ago I got sick of replacing the Braun screen every year so I went with a disposable (Gillette blue handles or Bic yellows) and spray foam or gel. I have thick facial hair so the disposables were only good for a single use and in a short period of time the disposables got expensive (they went from about $6(cdn) for 10 or 12 (on sale) to about a dollar each with sales being few and far between.
So, about six months ago I found a Gillette Black Beauty (which is what I had started with) made the same year as me, some Wilkison blades (the only ones sold in local pharmacies/drug stores), some Proraso soap and a cheap boar brush.
The addiction has grown quickly (and ironically, since I switched to save money...) and now have a Gillette Rocket and a Gillette Fatboy along with a variety of soaps, pre-shaves, balms, a couple of brushes, bowls, etc, and have found that Feather blades are working very well for me, the sharpness goes through the hair without a fight and the mildness (I'm told) of my chosen razors saves me from any problems with the feathers.
Sadly, all three razors are in really good shape as I'd love to get one (or more) re-plated in rhodium by Razor Emporium, but since they all look pretty good it's not really a justified expense....
I have two quests, which is why I've joined here:
1: I seek the soap that most smells like the old Old Spice, and
2:  It's 106 miles to Chicago, we got a full tank of gas, a half pack of cigarettes, it's dark...and we're wearing sunglasses and I seek a 1971 short handle Black Beauty.

Welcome to the team!  you are in a good place.

I can't help you with soaps that smell like old school Old Spice, but if you like creams track down the Old Spice Shave Creams from India.  I think you can get them on ebay.  Original and Lime are great and as far as I understand use the old formula.  They are still made by Shulton in India.
