Which do you prefer of each of these scents?

Mikes Lime or CRSW Limenthol?

Mike's Hungarian Lavender or CRSW Savon #1?

I like Mike’s Lime, but I’ve never tried the Limenthol. I prefer the scent of Savon #1 over Mike’s Hung Lav but unfortunately the Sav #1 irritated my (annoyingly) sensitive face.

Never tried Mikes Lime but CRSW Limenthol is excellent. As for the other ones, I prefer Savon No.1 since its complexities win out for me over a straight lavender. I'm a big supporter of Mikes but if CRSW went away, I'd be crushed!

I love Mike's Lime but unfortunately I haven't smelled Limenthol. I use Mike's Hungarian Lavender regularly but I would say that Larry's Savon No. 1 smells much more balanced and pleasant.

I think Larry's soaps take the award for better scent in both of these examples.  Not that Mike's are poor scents, because I also enjoy them, but Larry's perfumery is just better.

+1 I've enjoyed all of the various soaps I have bought from CRSW.

I found Mike's lime to be too sweet, candy-like...for me.  Still very nice, but too one note for my taste.  I am looking forward to trying CRSWs Limenthol...

I don't like citrus scents, so I have not tried Lime or Limenthol.  I have tried Hungarian Lavender and Savon #1.  Both excellent.  For me, their performance is comparable.  I give a slight edge to Mike's on the scent, because  it strikes me as a simpler scent.

As others have mentioned, Mike’s lime was too sweet to my nose while limenthol was excellent.

I find that CRSW almost always has the better, more refined scent over most of its competitors. But in performance, as long as we are not talking about the new Glide formula, Mike's always gives me better performance. YMMV.

The thing that I love about Mike's soaps is that the scents are clean and simple, and good for everyday use. CRSW is way too complex and perfumey for my tastes. Others see this the other way around, with a preference for the complexity and nuance of a well crafted fragrance, and dislike for simple, "pedestrian" scents. It all comes down to your taste.

As far as lavender goes, I think that Mike's Hungarian Lavender is one of the best on the market. It is much earthier than the average floral lavender, and has a masculine appeal. It's hard to find any company whose lavender offering can compete with it. Lavandin and Eucalyptus is a similar scent that I also enjoy. I highly recommend both.

As some have mentioned, Mike's Lime is a very sweet scent. I find it more reminiscent of green lifesavers candy than of limes. I enjoy it, but would not recommend it if a true lime scent was desired.

CRSW Savon No.1, I like Mikes Hungarian Lavender alot but it's a little too sharp. I also prefer the performance of CRSW over Mikes by a fair margin.

IMO, the CRSW scents are better/more complex than Mike’s; but Mike’s performs better than any CRSW formulation by a considerable margin. Again, just my opinion after extensive usage of both.

Mikes Hungarian Lavender is a straight lavender and CRSW Savon No.1 is a blend so kind of like comparing apples and oranges, same with the Lime/Limenthol comparo.

Both Mikes and CRSW have a permanent place in my rotation and have been using both for years. Since I won't compare scents as they are so different I'll talk about performance a bit. Cold River Soap Works bests Mikes in all aspects that matter in a shaving soap. In some areas the margins are slim but CRSW is slicker, richer, provides more protection and has a much better post shave.

Now if CRSW would only bring back their Lavender! Now that is/was a lavender! Heaven in a jar for lavender lovers.

I have used both, like both.  I find them quite similar in performance since they are both tallow recipes with lanolin.  Mike's lemongrass/eucalyptus is fabulous.  So is Larry's Lavish. I prefer vegan soaps, but these are the only tallow ones i will use.

Both soap brands are exceptionally good. It comes down to personal preference. I like the added cooling of the limenthol and the Savon No 1. is a bit more of a complex scent than Mikes Lavender.

Limenthol is apparently no longer offered. It's not listed on the CRSW website.

It might come back in the summer.
