Hey all was just wondering if you prefer a splash or a balm as your aftershave and why you like it. Thanks!

I have oily skin so a splash with alcohol, or plain witch hazel, is my preference

Cold water, then witch hazel followed by shea butter.

Splash...witch hazel.
No after shave: I prefer moisturizer.

Either, both, neither; it all depends on what I want that moment in time.

I'm inclined to say yes, though I can't say specifically when or in what form. I'm sure it hasn't been since I started wet shaving. I stumbled upon Cremo Face Moisturizer and haven't used anything else since.

I use both but not every time, i have some balms that match the splash as in same maker and scent and then I have a few splashes that go well with some balms, lots of balms go on heavy so I don't use much.

We always kept some growing near the house and when someone got hurt the normal thing was to snip off part of a leaf and rub it on the boo-boo.

I have never been sure of the difference.

Is it that a splash has the consistency of water and a balm has the consistency of a cream?
And where does a lotion fit in?

Generally speaking, but not etched into stone: splash in warm weather, balm in cold weather, both when the mood strikes me. In the winter, I sometimes apply a small amount of pure shea butter to my face, giving it some time it to sink in, and then apply a splash or a balm. It does make a difference during very cold weather, low humidity, and strong wind. I volunteer at an animal shelter located in a rural area that always seems to be windy, and I'm out with the dogs in all kinds of weather. The dogs always seem excited to see me, regardless of my after shave choice. Being merciful, I haven't tried Pashana on them, though. Biggrin

I always, and only, use an alcohol-based aftershave.  I've tried all kinds of balms and witch hazel, but they don't soothe my face or stop it from itching as an alcohol-based aftershave does.  The alcohol does not dry out my skin, but leaves it feeling invigorated.  If it has a touch of menthol, so much the better.

Yes splash is watery and a balm is like a runny lotion. Lotion is more of a moisturizer. That's my take anyways.
