In the winter, I sometimes apply a small amount of pure shea butter to my face, giving it some time it to sink in, and then apply a splash or a balm. It does make a difference during very cold weather, low humidity, and strong wind. I volunteer at an animal shelter located in a rural area that always seems to be windy, and I'm out with the dogs in all kinds of weather. The dogs always seem excited to see me, regardless of my after shave choice. Being merciful, I haven't tried Pashana on them, though. Biggrin
Awesome! I have added aloe vera into my routine and have really liked it. Thanks for sharing your thoughts!

I totally agree about the alcohol with menthol. Feels amazing.

Do you both use a matching set or mix them up?

Does it match up with your soaps well or do you use a single soap that it pairs well with?

Is that because a balm is more moisturizing?

The balm I use , Castle Forbes , is very rich and moisturizing and perhaps a little heavy in the warmer months. The splashes I use in the summer are generally only to add a bit of luxury to the shave and often contain menthol not really any performance benefit over the witch hazel I use already used.

I use Arko and Williams, so they smell like soap and citronella respectively.

I wouldn't say it matches up - I simply love the way it feels and smells.  I generally shave before I shower, contrary to a lot of people, so the shave soap is washed away.

Before my enlightenment when I used a Multi blade razor, a balm because I  needed it.
Now I  use a splash, because I like it.

Mostly splash for me. I will use a balm if I shave before bed or if it’s super dry out.

May use either one. Depends on the shave and how the soap left my face feeling. Winter, I tend to lean towards balms. Sometimes a splash, then a balm.

Since I first posted on this thread several months ago, my routine has changed. At the time, I used only aftershave splashes with alcohol. Since then, given the winter months and the love for balms among many, I've tried balms for the first time. I now use my alcohol splash post-shave in the morning, and then apply a balm mid-afternoon. This allows me to experience a couple of different face feels during the day, and a couple of different "aftershave" scents. My favorite "balms" are Chatillon Lux salves and Sebum Gold.
