Does your Shavemac 2-band have hooked tips?  Not the d01's, etc, just the plain 2-band silvertip hair.

Not sure. I’ll look at mine tomorrow and let you know. That said, it’s a great knot but the Shavemac Finest is still the best Shavemac knot for the money, IMO.

I've owned a number of Shavemac silvertip 2-bands over the years.  None of them had hooked tips.  However, they are still among the best 2-bands available.

I, maybe, had one Shavemac that eventually formed hooked tips. I get the allure of hooked tips and all, but Shavemac knots are about as consistent and predictable as it gets. Agree with Ricardo, the 2-bands are excellent.

Op here.  I ask becasue I have a regular silvertip and it seems to have hooked tips.  The face feel is so soft.  I would like to get another brush, but want it to be as soft.  I have read such great things about the 2-band hair and I am attempted to order the new brush in that hair to get a touch more backbone, but I am worried that it won't be as soft as the regular silver I currently have.

If the knot shape, diameter and loft are the same, the 2-band will probably not feel as soft to you as the 3-band.  You could add some softness by increasing the loft of the 2-band. For example, I think the Shavemac 26mm 2-band bulbs are great set to a loft of 50-52mm.  However, if you raise the loft to 55mm you'll get a softer feel.

First, my Shavemac 2 band does NOT have hooked tips. I love the knot, though.

I have a Savile Row Silvertip, which if I understand correctly, is made by Shavemac.

The knots feel very different. As LegalRazor mentioned, if both knots are set at the same dimensions, I would expect the silvertip to be notably softer.

In my view hooked tips is irrelevant, if you make sure to have these specs in check:

1. Loft/knot size ratio
2. Knot shape
3. Hair quality

This is just my personal opinion of course, and regarding Shavemac brushes, a brand which I have owned 25-30 brushes from, 10 being 2-Band Silvertip.

Just wondering: how many of the 25-30 are regular silvertip?  Also, how many regular silver tip have you owned and sold?  Thanks, Claus.
