I think its some kind of opening on the bottom of the inner bowl. A while back I read a thread about this but can't remember where. Most scuttles don't have any opening except where you pour the water in.

It's a small hole usually located toward the top of the inner bowl. The purpose of the hole is to allow small amounts of water to "dribble" into the bowl while you are creating your lather. The video linked below gives a demo on how it is used.

i've never owned the dribble port model, nor would i buy one.

i suggest ordering it without. it's easy enough to add water with fingers etc, and i would guess easier to control how much you add.

Good info to know. Good luck with the drilling, Tyler, if you do go ahead with it, but i agree with Bruce on this; easy enough to add water to the scuttle.

i would be worried about not being able to fill as high during the heating process, adding too much water when using the port, lather clogging up the port etc.

i think you made the right choice by NOT having he port included in your scuttle.

the DB is a fine scuttle and comes in handy during cold winters up here in canada.

keep us posted with some pictures when it arrives. Wink

You did good by not getting that feature. In the winter I fill my DB up to the top with water, with that option it would drain like the overflow in the sink. When I need to add water I just dip two fingers in a cup of warm water and let them drip in to the scuttle. I can make lather faster than that process of tipping.

There is a scuttle maker on eBay that gives you the option of adding 3 holes to the scuttle outer bowl. Someone bought one several months ago and promptly sold it. I guess it doesn't work that well.
