I lost one of my dogs about six weeks ago and I had planned on falling back to just one for some time. Two weeks ago on my anual trek to the International Kenel Club of Chicago show, I as always checked out the various rescue booths. One girl who had a hard luck story caught my eye. She had been bred to fight, so the original "owner" hand cropped her ears with scissors, that didn't work out as she just didn't want to fight, so they filed down her front teeth and tried her as a bait dog, but apparently she fought back just enough to not be a good bait dog so she was off to another "owner" to become a back yard breeding machine.
She did manage to produce 1 or 2 litters, but luck started turning her way. She was owned by a known felon (SHOCKER) and god bless the state of Illinois, but here it is unlawful for a convicted felon to own un-sterilized pets. So off to the anti cruelty society she went. From there she went to Friends of Chicago Animal Care and Control and after being checked out there off to a foster family who I met at the IKC show.

I filled out an application for her that night, and the following Saturday she and her foster parents (2 Chicago cops) came to pay a house visit and meet my German Shepherd. That went well and this past Saturday she officially came to my home as her new permanent home.

She's going to make a wonderful companion animal. Despite all she was put through, she adores people and plays perfectly well with other dogs. This afternoon we went to the local dog park and she was a perfect lady.
I cannot believe how inhumane some people can be with dogs.

What a wonderful story. Warmed my heart this morning. My house is on a main highway so I've rescued 4 so far (rehomed 3 of them)
This is the latest little fella that showed up at my house about a month ago.

He showed up cold and hungry and favoring one of his rear legs. We took him to the vet and he has a hairline fracture in his hip and the saddest thing of all, several pieces of buckshot in his lower abdomen. He was skinny as a rail. Now he's getting tubby and can get around a lot better. He's also very rowdy now which cracks me up. He's a typical puppy and our two non foster dogs seem to enjoy having a 3rd party to their mischief. Animal rescue stories are the best!! Thanks for posting it.
