got interested in wet shaving, don't remember why, girlfriend bought me Gourmet Shaving. that should have been enough of a hint. AND, get this, before we met she worked at a shop that sold these products. ALL of them, even has samples from Kent, Simpson and far more. still, with all that, I lurked for over a year? until at yard sale in Maine this summer and found 3 vintage razors in a bag with dozens of assorted plastic disposable and old ladies electric for $1 total. bought it from the little old lady instantly.

( did not buy the used tube of Vagisil )

cleaned razors up as best I could with vinegar, baking soda and Bon Ami, "Hasn't Scratched Yet." hope that was OK. only later read of boiling, Maas and Barbicide.

my father, does still wet shave, gave me a pack of blades, interestingly he never told me about shaving as a teen (friend's brother said "dude, you need to shave", loaned me his electric, then was pissed when I returned without cleaning - hey, was ~15) father's pack had no name, but made USA. I assume he bought in local drugstore, and I later found same in other drugstores with same look but package branded to each store, looks like Personna, perhaps?

he does not know it, but I'll be repaying my father's favor, his brush is all smashed down, will get him a new one. and maybe some blade samples, and soap. and maybe a starter set for my friend's brother.

on further reading, the set of 3 was perfect. part of the reason I LURKED so long was choice confusion. for $1 I got, a 1904 style, no name, top piece bent as was put together upside down (can that be fixed?). and open comb, Gilette, hairline cracks at both ends of handle (so straight, thought maybe part of design, but on reading, seems they are cracks), looks brass, but inside handle is bright silver white, not sure what original material was. and Gilette TTO, date code H2, does not close evenly. I've attached (inserted?) photo, please, welcome learning more.

also, one of them had blade, which I removed and put into back of my blade pack. was that a mistake? does anyone collect old blades?

so even with flaws on all, started shaving. I'm hooked. decided to get new razor, started to fall again into lurk endless choice pattern. until found the Selling and Trading section of forum. just ordered an ej de89 from andrewjs18 (thanks!), looking forward to arrival.

girlfriend excited as she interested in the products and better more often shave. ( I'd express my not liking shaving by putting it off forever until need to meet client) her knowledge of brands still mostly seems up to date, is having fun impressing me, not much changing with the classics.

that's it, got lots more to say and questions. gonna shave them for later.
