Hey all tomorrow morning I am going to be doing my first Muhle R41 head shave and was wondering if anyone has ever used a R41 for head shaves and if they have any tips. Thanks!

I've never shaved my head but I have a lot of experience with the R41.  I'm assuming that you have bunch of face shaves with the R41 and you have a preferred blade?

Haha nope! One face shave and the blade will be a Bolzano. I have shaved my head with a futur, variant, slant, open comb and shave shave my head at least twice a week

I suggest shaving with the R41 for a week or so before you shave your head.  I use a much different angle on the R41 than I do on most other razors.  I like a very steep angle on the R41, the blade is nearly parallel to my face.  Using a shallow angle similar to the angle I use on my Blackbird results in a rough shave with the R41.  Good luck what every you do!

Thanks for the info! I did notice on my face shave that I had to play with the angle a bit. I have heard such good things about them as head shavers that I can't wait to try it!

You're welcome.  I have a 2011 and two 2013 R41's and they are great razors.  The 2011 is a fantastic razor.  Good luck and enjoy your shave.

I too shave quite a bit with the R41 and have noticed like a previous member stated, the angle I use with this razor is different than my other razors. I would suggest making sure that you're comfortable with the angle, and then using the smoothest blade possible.

I shaved my head with an Ikon slant on Monday and still have the scab, exactly the size of the blade. Careful!

Did the head shave and it went great! A very smooth and efficient shave. The Bolzano blade is one of my favorites for head shaves.[Image: fa5c3bbc5bdebe0410113b4558d6a68c.jpg]

That's great news!  How would you compare the closeness of the shave to your other razors?

It was a very close shave. My head stayed smooth longer than most others. I think the biggest difference is in efficiency. The Variant and Maggard Open Comb give me as smooth of shave I just have to do a lot more touch up work with the OC and Variant depending on what setting I use.

For me the R41 gave the best head shaves , my blade of choice was the Gillette silver blue. Slick lather and a light hand is key.

Clearly, I’ve been under a rock Wink Thanks for the education. This old dog is never too old to learn something new.
