You already know me : Im a big shavemac fan.Bern' work (owner of shavemac) is outstanding and Im in love with the D01 silvertip badger hair , a silvertip badger hair which I consider top of the tops , maybe the best I have tried so far.

I already have 2 shavemac D01 silvertip and this one makes my 3rd one (and Im sure that more to follow) and I m very pleased with all of them , even when they have different measures.

This brush has the following measures :
  • 22 mm knot
  • 48 mm loft
  • total height of 95 mm

I already have a shavemac D01 silvertip with 22 mm knot but the loft is about 52 mm.I wanted a more firm backbone, and oh boy!,I think I got what I wanted.

I also personalized this brush,as you can see, since I had another shavemac D01 silvertip with the foroafeitado engraving , so it was time to have one with The Shave Nook . Biggrin

And , like the other shavemacs that I own , this one is well finish and extra packed with badger hair.

I dont want to repeat myself too much , so if you are wondering about shavemac's badger hair grades , I recommend you to read this article : shavemac badger hair grades.

Due to its shorter loft , this knot doesn't "blooms" too much when its wet and this is another characteristic I was looking for ,since I wanted this brush to be used with painting strokes on the face.I have used it today and the results weren't less than perfect ,as I was expecting.

Here a pic with the Simpson Duke 3,which has a similar loft,of around 47 mm (both brushes hair knots are "wet" for you to see their "blooming"):

The shavemac has less flow than the Duke but a little bit more than the Wet Shaving Products Stubbies brushes.By the way,the hair is very similar to those WSP silvertip , but the tips of the shavemac are snow white.

I know that shavemac arent the cheapest brushes on the market but I also already know of their quality and , for me ,are one of the best brush makers.I truly enjoy every shavemac I own or I have tried and there is a shavemac's badger hair offering for every budget.

Yes,I truly like shavemac and Bern Blos work.Vielen Dank!

Excellent review. Beautiful brush. Could having slightly more loft have improved it in your opinion?

I love the Shavemac D01 hair. When I have had Rudy Vey make custom brushes for me, such as my ivory handled ones and a Kauri wood handled one, I've had him use the D01. Great knots. And I like your brush, the handle too looks good.

Not really , Gary , since the brush is offering me what I was looking for , and I have already 2 more brushes like this (22 mm knot) which higher lofts.

They say a picture is worth a thousand words, and in this case it's true.

One word comes to mind, stunning.

Well, only certain types of rats would have long enough hair to provide sufficient loft! Maybe squirrels, better known as tree rats! Biggrin

I really love the look of mine in black. But seeing Teiste's gives me a little ivory envy.

Wow, I love that brush.

Another video request of how it lathers T!

IMO shavemac d01 3 band is the best 3 band hair in the business.

Better than Simpsons Super & Vulfix silvertip? If so, high praise indeed.

In 3 band and in my brush and my preferences shavemac has the edge.

But your talking very small differences here.

Everything about this brush looks fantastic! So does it have better backbone and density then the Duke 3?

Great Review Teiste ,
i have a question about your 3 band d01 ...
Using 24mm d01 two band its very dense but scritchy machine so i cant use it everyday..how about yours ?
Do you think my scritcy machine will broken soon and softened tips ? i thought silvertip brushes have white and soft tips but these are totally different than the regular silvertips..i know many d01 user like them but also i know many of them hate this scritcy..All this d01s are same scrity?
Thanks .

i find your answer here Teiste so my shavemac have 46mm loft and impossible to break Sad after uses maybe it will get much softer
but im not sure about that. Many d01 2 band user thought same btw.

That is very nice looking brush! I used to have a shavemac or macfix grosvenor, it was nice when I had it. But I recently bought a Polo 8 in SuperBadger 3Band and I think the knot is close to the D-01 3Band!

I am a big fan of shavemac brushes ... I own five .. 2 D01s and 3 regular silvertips, of which one is a custom RV....
I find myself grabbing more often the regular silvertips as I prefer their flow through and slightly softer face feel.
For me shavemac is one of the highest quality manufacturers out there... I am always tempted to get another one... some of their latest wood handle designs are truly stunning... and I may have to give in Blush

The D01s are the more pronounced fans (they are symmetric, the left one seems not but that is just due to perspective).
