I hear that Tradere has gone thru a preliminary run of an open comb slant. It seems as if the pairing of an open comb as well as a slant would give unparalleled closeness akin to a straight razor, even more so than the R41 or R41 Grande. I am looking for the closest thing to single edge shaving. I have my Futur permanently fixed on 6 as well as an IKON S3S . My blade of choice for now is Feather. I am currently in the market for a vintage Fasan, Merkur, or Ziglar open comb slant. Maybe I should hold out for the Tradere. Two questions:

1) How is the shave with a "true" open comb slant? and

2) Has anyone heard about when a Tradere open comb slant would be available?

I don't know whether to just wait on the sidelines for the Tradere or pull the trigger if I should find a vintage open comb slant.

Thanks,

The closest shave you can get would be the R41 this includes an open comb slant

I honestly think you're better off waiting for the Tradere. The only open comb slants I've ever seen are rather rare. Fasan did make a Bakelite open comb slant and those show up a bit more.

I highly doubt that any safety razor shaves closer than the 2011 R41. I've yet to try one that does.

Forget 6. Take off the top cap, push down on the plate where the blade rests, and you can go past 6. I think I've tried 8 or 9. It still doesn't compare to the 2011 R41.

Thanks Dave, I was thinking the same thing.

since your trying so hard to get the closet shave possible why not get away from the DEs and give a straight a shot,... they are no comb and as aggressive as you want them to be,... even a shavette or a feather AC could get you there... moreso then the R41

Thanks for the advice syngent. I am close to making the jump to a straight, maybe in 2013...But I love the convenience of the DE

well shavettes and Feathers have all the convenience of a DE with the "openness" of a straight, they can help get your hands ready for the jump as well.... just something to think about anyway.... btw if you have an R41 and you want it more aggressive... you can also shim the blade and increase its aggressivness even more

This thread was moved to the safety razors and blade area as it really doesn't pertain to BST at this time.

Thank you
