I don't fuss over them though because they came with the Crona razor that costed me 15 bucks  and I got bunch of other great modern DE and SE blades to shave with.

If you really want to be impressed by a modern blade smoothness, extreme sharpness and long lasting longevity for 10-15 shaves per blade that would be the KAI DE blades. Feather like sharp, GBS like smooth, GEM PTFE like longevity with 3-5 shaves more depending on the blade. I'm waiting for prices to drop down a bit so I can order 100 of them.

When I compare the Kai's to the Personna 74, the Kai's were sharper, tad less smoother but I cant say regarding the longevity because the 74 crapped on me on the 4-5th shave due to the condition it was.  There is a guy on ebay who sells 100 pack  of the 74's but he is asking 200+ bucks.... I say try the Kai's if you want an amazing modern DE blade.

Sorry to hear about your bad experience with the 74's. Who is this guy on ebay you're referring to ? I can't find him and I check for them there every day. I'm thinking phonies.

sorry I had no clue you replied because this forum don't have notification bar, here is the link for the 100 pack Personna 74

EDIT: Sorry mods wasn't aware of that, send the guy the link via PM

I sold/ gave away all the remaining packages I had found. At this moment, I wish I had kept one to test it with my currently favorite DEs.

My good friend Kypros was kind enough to send me a couple of these blades about a week ago.

I've already had 4 shaves with my Rockwell 6s using this blade. The blade gets better after a couple of uses. I want to see how many shaves it will last. Usually I change the blade after 4-5 shaves, depending on the blade. I remember I've used one for about 20 shaves a few years ago. I haven't had the chance to try them again since then and now it's a good chance to test it with my favorite DEs. My preferences and shaving habits have changed a lot after 3 years.

I've used the tungsten for 10 shaves, but after the 8th it started not being as sharp or as smooth as before. In all faireness, I have to say that I'm among those who will not stop until a true BBS is achieved, which means a few corrections to say the least. By my standards where the Feather and Polsilver will last me only for 3 shaves, the Personna is way longer lasting and smoother in the beginning than both of them.

Gents,

Hello! I was recently introduced to vintage blades and through generous members who sent me some to try, some who were generously willing to sell me some, and a few eBay auctions, I have acquired quite a few of the Personna 74 Medical Preps, Wilkinson London Bridge, and Wilkinson Light Brigade blades.

I have not used any of the Wilkinson Blades yet, because I am still on my first Personna 74. The plan is to try them after the first 74 dies.

I am five shaves into it, and all I can say is it is the BEST blade that I have used thus far for my face/technique/equipment. I have had five B3S (Beautiful BBS) shaves with it, and each has seemingly been better than the last.

Thus far I have used Santa Maria Novella, Martin De Candre Argumes (2), Sebum Purple, and Australian Private Reserve as the soaps and creams, and for the razors I have used: the RS-10 with mild plate and aggressive plate (2), the Charcoal Goods Level 1, and the Feather AS-D2. The blade seems to really shine in the more aggressive razor.

I am hoping to get at least 20 shaves for each blade, and I bought a Twinplex Stropper to help in that department if needed.

We will see how the journey progresses!

Vr

If these blades are so good and last so long why doesn,t someone in the blade business make them again....they must know how to do it or where to have them made...seems strange that they just stopped making them....everyone would buy them .....

I heard that as well, and that must be the normal container that you slide the blade out of...the medical prep Personna 74s that are individually wrapped do not have any smell at all.

Actually I didn,t want to use the swear word I was commenting why can,t they make this wonderful blade again if everyone who has used one loves them and they are so hard and expensive to obtain.....we want them ...so make them available ...seems like a no brainer....

Here's  a shot the wrapper of one of the ones they gave out in little plastic envelopes during the roll out. I'll  try to take a better shot of it and the envelope later. I think they were put into newspapers but I'm not sure.

Tom,

Thanks a lot for posting these pictures! I noticed that on the Personna Super Platinum Chrome dispensers where a broader arrow is present it actually holds blades marked Personna 74...where as the Super Platinum Chrome dispensers showing a more narrow arrow...the blades aren’t marked as “74s.” I took a shot on a lot with SPC packages that showed the broader arrows.

They are indeed Personna 74s, and I was able to snag them for a song!

Thanks again!

Indeed you are right, Matt.
Well done on picking them up.

If you get the chance to pick up the normal non-P74 Super Platinum Chrome blades, I would recommend that you go for it. Of the complete series, these are my personal favourites. Don’t last as long as the P74s, but still great longevity at 10-15 shaves per blade, and Man what a shave they provide - very smooth and very close.
