I rehandled a 26mm Thater knot and dropped the loft a bit. I'll give it a test drive tomorrow morning and see if I should glue it. The handle material is called Black Olive. It's very iridescent.

You bet that's an improvement. The only thing about the Thaters that I tried would be the handle. But how did you get the knot out of their handle without destroying it? I didn't even know that was possible.

Steve, you upscaled that knot into a better handle. Nice!

Actually, I just received this in a trade today. I was cleaning the brush and did a hand lather to check it out and rinsed the knot in hot tap water. Gave it a slight tug and it moved, so I just pulled it out of the handle. This knot was coming out one way or the other. I didn't care for the loft. In other words, I got lucky.

That says something for Thater's glue ...

The swap to the new handle is a fine improvement. Please post how it works for you.

As for the glue, I think you just got lucky. Wink

I tried via Rudy if Thäter would just sell their knots in order to get a custom handle made but it seems Rudy never got them to agree.... A Thäter in a M7/L7/RV 7 handle would be truly a nice thing...

This is my second "big name" brush I've tried. I don't know, is there to dense? It's on the borderline of luxury but I think it could be better. Fan shaped. I'm going to drop the loft some more.

Hi

That handle shape in the Black Olive is simply stunning, pure class Euro

What lofts have you played with so far with that 26mm knot?

Take care, Mike

I dropped the Thater knot to 45mm from 50mm, quite a change in feel. I'll leave it there for a couple of shaves but my guess is that's where it will stay. I might even try a couple of mm shorter. It won't stay with this handle but it works for experimenting.
