Does anybody out there have first hand experience with both MdC and one of the TFS hard soaps? How would one compare the two as far as as performance and efficacy?

My question is,are the TFS hard soaps better than the soft ones (croaps)?

I have tried the croaps (soft soaps) and theyre very good. The Bergamotto/Neroli smells fantastic as well as the Sandalwood.

However,Martin de Candre is still ahead in skin care properties and easiness of lather making.

I've tried some TFS Barbe Rosse and it doesn't hold a candle to MdC. MdC is in a class all by itself as far as ease of lathering, amount of lather, and product used.

They'll never have a US Vendor I'd say and I'm sure quite a few US Vendors have tried. It truly is a wonderful soap but I do understand about the shipping.

The TFS hard soap is light years ahead of barbe rosse.

Lee,
The boys at Pasteur's tried to import it and couldn't get anywhere with them. You might be luckier.

I've only used the soft soap once so can't give a good comparison but the hard soap I'm addicted to it.

You can manage the shipping costs a bit if you order multiple items - say 4 tubs. It will be expensive, but it'll spread the cost (from what I recall, the shipping isn't per item).

You can sell what you don't need in about 15 minutes in the S&T thread.

MdC lather so easily, I get best results with a smaller badger - bigger badgers pick up too much soap.

I used MdC yesterday and TFS Tobacco Verde (hard soap) this morning. It had been the first time I'd used MdC in quite some time. I was impressed with it all day. My skin felt great, good smooth shave. Unfortunately, I really, really dislike the smell of MdC but it is a superb shaving soap. I don't have issues lathering soap even though we have fairly hard water. It's around 5 grains or a 100 ppm in total hardness and that's for treated water. Both soaps lather easy enough for me to not consider one or the other to have a big advantage. For skin care I'd give the advantage to MdC but again it's slight. So as far as the total package, I'd take TFS by a nose.

Oscar, thanks for your input. Do you have oily, dry, normal skin would you say?

My best guess is I probably have oily during the summer and dry skin in the winter. We have fairly rough winters.

I have and regularly use both MdC and TFS hard soap (Tabacco Verde). I don't think you can go wrong with either. I give the edge to MdC in terms of ease of lathering and closeness of shave. I'm not sure about skin care - I think my skin feels better with TFS. I actually find MdC a little drying to my skin. Big advantages for TFS: choice of scent, price, and availability. I haven't gotten far enough into my TFS, though, to say whether it lasts as long as MdC.

With regard to MdC shipping fees - I think I paid in the neighborhood of $20. I did not have to pay VAT, a decent savings. And the shipping was less than 7 days from clicking the order button on the computer to delivery at my door in Austin, TX. I felt the shipping cost was well worth it.

Really? I have some MdC and I still have not found why people consider it to be so amazing. Yes it is a fantastic soap, but so are my Razorock soft soaps, and my TFS.

I was going to wait for a second try with the MdC before posting my opinion, but I largely agree with this comment.

The one thing that I did really notice was that it instantly lathered with very little product. I also felt a nice tingling sensation on my face. Smell was a little weird.

Other than that, it shaved like normal.

It might lather easier, I can't remember. It probably does since my hand basically exploded into lather after a few seconds of loading the brush.

The TFS hard soap is light years ahead of barbe rosse.

Their barbe rosse is a less expensive formula that is designed to retail for under $2 euro in Italy(europe); it's decent and will offer a good shave, but TFS's other formulas which use very high grade coconut oil and hazelnut oil are far superior.

I've never used TFS and to tell the truth, I'm not really sure what TFS is, but I have and do use MdC and it will always be in my rotation.
