My impressions with my shiny chrome version. A fantastic razor as far as I'm concerned. Nothing else shaves like a Futur!
Its really hard to explain but it is a smooth shaver when shown respect. I find it performs best for me set on 4 for all 2 passes no problems using perma sharp blades.
Smooth, efficient shave, nice audio feedback, etc.

For those of you that love Merkur Futur, I wonder if i can step up with another DE razor?
Can you recommend any other DE razor that comes close to this efficiency without the extra aggressiveness for a daily shave?

Your thoughts please.

if you like aggressive razors, you would like the Muhle R-41 and the charcoal goods level 3.

sure yo can step up:

Fatip Grande, MMOC, Gillette Aristocrat Safety Bar British #15, Ikon Tech, Muhle R41, Pal adjustable ( dialed maximum). Just few on top of my head, although over time shaving I tamed it down and now I prefer medium aggressive razors and I used to like the extra aggressive ones. After 3 years of shaving I realized there is no need for that much aggression specially for daily shaves

Guys, I think he is asking for a razor that is equally efficient but not aggressive.  Maybe he is actually looking for LESS aggressive razors that maintain a two-pass efficiency.

Correct!  same or less aggressive than Futur with the same efficiency or better. R41 is not justified for daily shave (better for 2-3 days growth).

I can't rate the Futur, having never used one. But I get great two pass shaves with fantastic comfort with absolutely NO FEAR of face damage.
The Rockwell 6s, is my choice for "easy, carefree shaving"......... Sbathroom_grooming_shaving_100-100

I was going to say the same. A level 1 on Futur feels like the 5 or 6 on Rockwell.

One thing about moving from the Futur to a milder razor is one may have to relearn maintaining a much more limited cutting angle. The Futur with its huge blade gap has a range of cutting angles unmatched by other razors, and kinda reinforces a lazy approach. Moving from that to a razor with narrowly defined optimum angle takes some getting used to.

I get about the same efficiency from almost all my razors.  But for something different yet efficient maybe look at Occam's Razor.  It has pleasantly surprised me.

Occam's razor?  Or a variant thereof?  Good advice.

As an avid collector over the years I've probably shaved with a hundred different razors.  I always migrate back to my original Futur.
That said, I look forward to following this thread and hope the author finds his answers.

I would also notion a semi-adjustable razor like the Occam SE or the Rockwell 6C/6S. I say semi since you cannot adjust as you shave like the Futur. You have to adjust prior to inserting the blade.

I've had both the Merkur Futur and the Occam razor. The Occam with most aggressive head (3 dot) is much more mild than the Futur on a 6. I'd probably rate it at a 3 on the Futur. The Occam can be a nice daily shaver for most gents.

Yes, the Parker Variant is a much better razor than the Futur, IMO.

Much better.....in fact better than most adjustables at a very modest price and built like a tank but shaves like a dream.....hard to beat for the money and for the shave....cannot go wrong on the Parker Variant.....

I have a Futur and thought it was very good.  Just bought a Ambassador REX and it is the Rolls Royce of of adjustables.
