I imagine there are a number of shavers here who've got this magnificent little beast in their rotations.  Has anyone been able to compare it to its vintage counterpart?  I know the 'c' is chrome-plated as opposed to silver-plated, and unless I am mistaken the vintage is all brass, whereas the moderns have zinc-alloy heads and bases.  But does anyone have experience comparing the two?  If so, how did each perform?  Which would you recommend?

+1  I might have to agree with Nick about this as I have never heard Merkur using brass to make their DE razors. However, I could easily be mistaken.  Shy

I could be wrong.  I heard vintage razors were usually made of brass until World War II, when it was used in shell casings and for years afterward there was a shortage necessitating other metals such as steel and aluminum.
