I was on the fence, waiting for the questions to clear.  They've now been cleared, and I appreciate Matt's engagement.  Order placed.

I hope other vendors are paying attention to what the "right way" looks like.

Thanks Matt,

I had heard about the problems with the early releases, but your very detailed explanation/improvements/pics have put my mind to rest. This is definitely a razor I have put on my listto get at some point in the future.

After reading Matt's explanation, my reservations were satisfied, and I ordered a Rex Ambassador from Bullgoose.  An "N1" (first quarter of 2018) arrived 3 days later, and it seems flawless to me.

Excellent post above Matt! Question - my dad preordered one from you all back in September I believe and unknown to me it was to save and give to me on my 40th birthday in March. How do I know if the razor he gave me has any items that need to be addressed?

Thanks in advance!

Jason

Matt;
Great post. As a former engineer I appreciate the process and the end results. I went to the Big East Shave Meet last weekend to see this better mousetrap. Matt handed me the REX and I was sold. Great workmanship and quality. Got home, lathered up and took the REX for a shave. I was very impressed with the way the blade is held, very tight, perfect exposure of the blade on each side of the head. The dial turns easily. I set it at 4 but decided to lower it to 3 for the first pass. Second pass at 2. Perfect balance. Very smooth shave, irritation free. Very glad I made the purchase. Will last generations. Haven't found a better adjustable.

I bought a Rex Ambassador a few months ago (N1 date code), but I just this week got around to trying it.  Beautifully made; nice size, weight, and balance.  Really feels solidly made and well-finished.  The blade alignment was perfect.  So how about the shaves?

I like an aggressive razor, so I set it at Level 4 (of 6) for the first shave, and that was plenty.  Got a terrific BBS shave, with a definite blade feel.

Then I decided to try Level 5 for the next day.  Too much.  This from a guy who likes a Gillette Fat Boy or Slim set to Level 9 or a Rockwell on Plate 6.  I was surprised that the Rex is capable of going too aggressive for me well before maxing out.

I finally settled on Level 3, which provides (for me) the perfect balance.

I don't know of another adjustable razor, modern or vintage, that spans such a wide range of aggressiveness.

Really an impressive razor.

SWMBO noticed at 3 razor was too aggressive - red skin, I am color blind so I missed it. Now Rex at 2.5 and delivers a really good BBS. I may drop to 2 or less. I am shaving a week with the Rex and very happy.

I enjoy the Rex as well.  I was able to use 6.5 without irritation, but I don't need it that high.  I shave every day and I think setting 4 is a good balance of comfort/efficiency.  I really like the blade feel on this razor as well.  It's the first razor I've purchased where I was able to get it dialed in before I completed my first pass.

I am really enjoying my REX razor.  I usually set the dial for 2.5, sit back and enjoy the shave.  Out of all the razors in my collection this one might be the best fit for a daily driver.  I could easily use this razor for the rest of my life and be content.

I am very pleased with my Rex as well. My only 2 complaints about the razor are: The adjustment dial is a bit loose and moves too easily. If I grasp the razor a bit too high during shaving the wheel has a tendency to move from my setting. Secondly, I am visually impaired and it is not always easy for me to find the red dot on the adjustment wheel. I wish it were a bit easier for me to find the red dot. As far as the shave goes it is an excellent razor.

Rcvd. my Rex Ambassador yesterday, first use today. I really like it... Thumbup
To qualify my statement...I have The Feathers, D-1, D-2 and that TTO one(I forget the name)
Rockwell 6s,both Razorock BS's, Futur & clone, Muhle, Blackland Sabre, a couple more....anyway,
I think this is the best razor I've used. Only Con, my old eyes have difficulty seeing the numbers.
I give it ….. Number_one

I just purchased an N3 a couple weeks ago - I absolutely love the razor, best shaves I've had to date.  In fact, I'm excited about this American made, stainless steel, adjustable DE razor.  It's well balanced, has great knurling, looks awesome - and it's what all razors should be (imho) - adjustable.  Smile

UPDATE:
Couple of months now and I haven't used any other razor in my rotation.  The Ambassador is absolutely wonderful.  Gives me near perfect shaves - and because this razor is so comfortable, I can buff with it to my heart's content if I feel like it.

I'm seriously considering purchasing a second one.
