Any recommendations for well-made, attractive, more grippy handles for EJ DE89’s other than the standard EJ handles? Thanks.

Pretty much anything under the sun. That said, there is an EJ handle, I think it's called barley, that is quite good. I know you said you didn't want EJ, but that's an option. Also the Weber Bulldogs are quite grippy and nice. But like I said just about anything will work. It's really about the Aesthetics because anything will screw onto the EJ.

That’s good to know. I was uncertain if the threads on most DE razor heads and handles were compatible

I just received the Asylum Rx handle from Bullgoose. It fits the DE89 perfectly.

Also, I just ordered a Weber Classic stainless steel handle on Amazon.

(Weber also makes a Bulldog handle that's 0.05" larger in diameter than the Classic version, which is 0.45" in diameter.)

Beautiful Asylum handle!  I also have the first version of the Weber Classic, and several Bulldogs from various manufacturers, but I like the looks of the EJ DE89 on a SABI T2 Handle:

I don't think so; I don't know what the "gold" finish is, but I don't think it is real gold.

Ikon or Razorock handles (esp double knurled one) would make fine affordable options.  I have a DE89 head on an Ikon bulldog handle.

I pair my EJ DE 89 head with a Maggard MR 5 handle.  Great combination.

I prefer long & light handle, mostly in aluminium.
Make a good head geometry smoother and more efficient.

My absolute fav is black alu Colonial Razor "The General".
Nice too is Maggard MR14, or even the super cheap Lord L6.
