The topic is fairly self-explanatory. What's your favorite blade and why? How long have you been using it, and how do others compare to your favorite?
So far my ties for number-one favorite are the Gillette Bleue Extra and the Super Iridium/Iridium Super. Both give me close, smooth shaves with no or almost no nicking even in my problem areas of the neck and corners of my mouth, and no irritation.
Runner-Up: Personna Lab Blue — Nice and sharp and practically no irritation, and made in the United States.
Third Place: Astra Superior Platinum — Not as close as the others, but quite forgiving on my face.
Compared to other blades I've tried, these were the ones that gave me the best shaves and least nicking and irritation. Others, such as the Treet Carbon Steel "Black Beauties", were good but tended to wear out sooner. My worst experiences were with the Van Der Hagen, Dorco Prime Platinum, and Feather blades. The latter two brands were super-sharp, perhaps too sharp for my skin type, leaving me nicked, irritated, or both.

1) Perma Sharp Super - Great smooth shave every time and works well in every razor I've thrown it in.
2) Pol Silver Super Iridium - See above
3) Gillette Silver Blue - Great blade but the consistency isn't there when compared to the above two
4) Gillette Nacet - Love the blades but they don't seem to last as long as the Perma Sharp or Pol Silvers
1st place is virtually a tie between the Perma Sharp and Pol Silver but the Perma Sharp seem to last about 4 shaves compared to 3 for the Pol Solver so the nod goes to the Perma Sharp

Personna 74 and Wilkinson Sword Light Brigades or Chromium Edge.
Oh yeah, the why. Because they are both as sharp as anything I've used and give me the closest shaves but more importantly, to me, they do it as smooth as ice and comfortable.
and they do it for 30+ and 14 or so shaves respectively.

Personna Med Preps are my favorite, but only by a whisker.
The truth is there are a bunch of really good blades out there. PermaSharp, GSB, Astra SP, Polsilver, and Nacet have all been excellent performers for me. My sense is that there are a lot of blade manufacturers who have figured out how to manufacture good sharp blades.
These aren't artisanal items requiring skilled craftsmen. Once you have the machinery design down, you can produce great blades wherever your factory is. The technology is widely disseminated, most process patents have expired, and what surprises me most is that not all razor blades are outstanding. There's no real excuse.

I agree.
My question is why Derby still exists? Their blades are by far the worst. Who buys them?

After trying out many different blades I found that Pol Silver Super Iridium & Gillette Platinum (my #1 & #2 blades) work best for my face/skin and tuff whiskers. Both of these blades are pretty sharp and very smooth just the way I like my blades. about a year ago my #2 blade was Gillette Silver Blue but after trying the Gillette Platinum it edged out the Gillette Silver Blue in both sharpness & smoothness for me. But the Gillette Silver Blue is still an excellent blade! I solidly think my search for the greatest blades is done.

May be barbershops. One time use and throw. Don't tell me that they are not good enough for a one time use either Nikos..

Most barbershops in Athens use the Astras. An excellent blade at the same price with the Derbys( 0,50-0,60 euros each pack of 5). There is no reason to buy the latter if you ask me.
