I just ordered a Thater model 4125/5 which has a 32mm knot! That's even bigger than my Kent BLK12 (31mm), which is a monster in its own right. I bought it from Fendrihan - that's the only Thater dealer I have found that offers it. They didn't display much in specs, other than the knot size and overall height (124mm) but in the pic, it looks like the biggest bulb ever! If this brush has Thater's legendary ultra-soft knots, my big Kent may be out of a job.

I'll post pics as soon as it arrives.

Wow Bob. The 4125/3 two band is fantastic. Can't wait to see the the 5! Knot will probably end up being 34mm!

Max - that's what I'm hoping! As far as I am concerned, when it comes to brushes, bigger is better.

For some people, they are. 32 mm must be a heck of a lot of a brush.Looking forward to see your pics.

Turns out that the Simpson Chubby 3 that I received today has a 31.5mm knot - and yes, it's huge. So it looks like the Simpson and Thater will be going head to head - I hope they're both keepers.

It'll probably feel similar to the Kent in size as 2 band doesn't bloom as much and holds it's shape very well.

I own a Kent BLK12. The bloom on the Kent is still larger than the Simpson, but the Simpson bloomed more than I expected. It is even softer than the Kent, believe it or not, and has a whole lot more backbone. My Kent's days are numbered.....

I think you and I posted that post at the same time or I completely missed it.

I was referring to the Thater v. Kent.

The Simpsons super is better hair than the Kent I think. Give me a couple of days for my BK8 to get here and I'll have a definitive answer.

The chubby will definitely have less bloom, but will still bloom quite a bit. The chubby has more backbone both because of the extreme density of the hair (honestly can't think of any other brush with more hair/cm2) and the lower loft.

Dont these brushes become very heavy to use with the water and the lather and all?

The Chubby 3 weighs about 135 grams when wet - it feels substantial, but not heavy.

Well, gents, the BIG Thater arrived today - and I mean BIG. The nominal knot diameter is 32mm, but the actual knot is 34mm! I have attached a pic of the Thater side-by-side with Kent's monster, the BLK12. The Kent looks huge next to all my other brushes (and my other brushes aren't small), but next to the Thater, the big Kent looks like a normal-sized brush.

So you want to know how good it is, right? Well, lemme tell you - it's great! It has Thater's typical ultra-soft tips and very good backbone thanks to it's high density. Of course it's a soap-hog, but it's not as bad as my Chubby 3.

There's no getting away from the fact that it's a huge brush, but it doesn't feel as huge as the Kent. I already have 3 top-shelf large brushes (29 - 32mm by Rooney, Simpson and Thater) and my out-of-the-box experience today (one shave and two tests) tells me that this may be the best of all.
