Hello everyone,

I have been using ABC for a while and I like it very much.  In my top 3.  If anyone has tried both ABC and Boellis Panama, how do they stack up against each other?  Should I try the Boelllis or stick with the very reliable ABC?  Again, I am very happy with ABC, just wondering if it Boellis Panama could be even better.

Take care,

Nick P.

I prefer Boellis Panama 1924 over ABC soap or cream. I get better shaves and it's only $48 for 250 grams, plus BP 1924 seems to last forever!
Note that my observations are ONLY in regard to 1924, not any of the other scents, which I don't have enough experience with to compare.
Edit: I will add that they are fairly close in quality of shave.

Both are excellent.  I've owned both and kept the ABC.  The differences between them were very close.  At the time, ABC was slightly cheaper.  Now the ABC hard soap is no longer made, but the cream is still available (for now).
YMMV of course.

ABC hard soap is still available directly from the Antica Barbieria Colla online shop.

I enjoy using both of these excellent soaps. I just finished my first 250 gram brick of 1924, and have started on a new one. ABC used to only come in a 250 gram brick, and I still have about 1/2 of the brick stored away in an tightly sealed container, and primarily use their current ABC cream. I find their cream, which is more like a hard croap, to perform a little better than their hard soap. Although I like both 1924 and ABC, I think the performance is slightly better with ABC, but only slightly.

I have all three. I prefer ABC cream by the thinnest of margins. For those whom it matters, Boellis 1924 is a tallow soap and ABC is non-tallow.

ABC cream is slick, and along with ABC hard soap, AdP, and I Coloniali work better with my complexion.

Currently here in the US, Boellis is a much better buy. As noted above, the hard soap is still listed at the ABC web shop for 33€.

ABC cream has the cherry note to it, the ABC hard soap and Boellis do not.

You're kind of splitting hairs with ABC vs Boellis, and you'll be happy with either I'm sure. Your wallet will be happier with Boellis !

Cheers, Steve

Does the Boellis have a similar cherry almond scent like Cella or is it a unique scent?

I ask because I get easily bored with that scent and already own Cella and P.160 within the cherry almond scent family.  Not something I dislike necessarily, but glad for the variety of scents.

Does anyone have any tips on where to find Boelis and Antica Barbieria Colla products in Rome or Florence?

this thread shows why I love tsn.  great people with tons of knowledge and a love of shaving sharing.    I am with primotore both very similar to me.  abc first expensive cream I ever bought but seem to use boellis more as I love the aftershave spray of theirs

I may be too old to discern the scent but ABC to me IMHO lacks the bold scent present in Cella, I find ABC to be subtle if not neutral. Is this why my wife asks me to take a shower?

Agree, the Boellis AS is lovely. Different than the soap.

I concur that these are very, very similar in performance, but for me the ABC's slickness is just barely better. Honestly, though, in a blind test, I'm not sure I could tell the lathers apart. Both incredible.

I'd agree with most on this thread that both are excellent soaps, and very, very similar in performance.   In my soap review thread I graded them equally, and described them as follows:

Boellis - A relatively expensive Italian soap that is excellent overall. Think "high end Cella". A more refined scent with great lather and great performance, but you'll pay for it.

Antica Barbieria Colla - Another expensive, but excellent Italian soap. To me, almost identical to Boellis, but less cherry note to the almond scent, a tad lighter scent, and a bit more expensive.

If I was picking one, I'd go with Boellis, but again we're splitting hairs here.  You'll be very happy with either and won't really be missing out either way.  To me, having both is probably overkill as they are so similar, but YMMV.

(By the way, once again, thanks go out to @discerningbev for hooking me up with the samples for review!)

I forgot, that even though I own both, I also own the Cella 1 kg brick.

Cella is more artificial in scent, but hard pressed let me admit to this:

Cella 1 kg brick performs equally well as both my Boellis and ABC soaps.

Not hard for me to agree Claus.

I totally agree with you on this. IMO Cella is really underrated by most wet-shavers.
