Today I received a Morris and Forndran Stubby 2XL with the famed Rooney Finest hair. At first I was reluctant when I heard about ClassicShaving offering these, so I called Lee to clear up exactly what they are. He told me these were made at least 3 years ago and are indeed 2XL’s Finest in M&F handles. He was shocked they hadn’t been sold yet and urged me to secure one immediately as they will likely never be available again.

Now, to the brush. It’s an unbelievably dense 28x50 knot with a handle that feels similar in the hand to a Chubby 2. For a point of reference, I’ll compare it to a Heritage 3XL that I have. It is certainly denser and the hairs are also thinner. What I find remarkable about this brush is its capacity to load a huge amount of product quickly and easily. It ripped my puck of QCS apart. I was absolutely blown away after 20 seconds of loading and ended up with more lather than I’ve ever created with a brush. This is a soft brush, but there is some scritch there. I didn't find it uncomfortable; it was more of a courser scrub feeling than it was a scritch feeling (Semantics I suppose?). Compared to the heritage 2-band hair, it's certainly not as soft but I suppose some people dislike brushes that are “too soft”. I’ll let the pictures tell the rest of the story.

edit: sorry the images are huge, I'm new to the nook Smile

Amir, you truly scored a holy grail of badger hair, the Rooney finest.

How would you compare this brush to others that you have tried (not only the Heritage super badger two band hair) ?

Thanks for the pics,my friend.

I can only compare it to Simpsons 2-band, and hopefully I can try a Thater and Semogue 2-band soon and give you a comparison of those as well.

It is softer, denser, and scrubbier than the Chubby 2&3 2-bands and a PJ3 2-band I have tried. I believe the hairs are thinner as well. Oddly, the Finest is very soft when dry, even softer than the heritage.

Yes,it seems like a quiet peculiar badger hair, very different to many others.

Is it a lather hog too?

That was my first concern, but it actually gave up the lather very generously. It may have been because I created so much, but I was able to paint on a great coat of lather for four passes without much thinning.

I was really surprised. There was already enough in the brush itself for a full shave, let alone what you see there on top of it.

It was me who got the info from a certain shop.
They asked me not to post the link, as it was for internal use at first.

I then posted the official pics on B&B (with no link), and never told it was that special kind of hair - but when people saw the prices, they said: No thank you.

I got the last Medium brush they had - for $299, and then I have to pay tax on top of that Biggrin

Hope it's worth, though it honestly does seem to bloom a bit more than I like in my brushes Blush

Hi Amir

Too much brush for me, but there's no question about it (at least in my mind), that brush is an absolute stunner Babeando A47 Babeando

The hair density appears to be off the charts, and that is a ridiculous amount of beautiful looking lather... it would appear you've picked up a very! special shaving brush indeed Thumbsup

Take care, Mike

I think the Finest brushes truly live up to their name. Whether or not they are worth the asking prices will always be an open question.
