We’re on a driving vacation in the Maritimes.  And, I just could resist visiting Sara Bonnyman Pottery since I was (sort-of) in the neighbourhood.  Sara is located in Tatamagouche, Nova Scotia.  It’s around 1 ½ hours from Halifax.

Sara started her pottery business 40 years ago.  I’ve never had one of her scuttles or lather bowls, but have been thinking about acquiring one for quite a while.  She’s warm and friendly (like all Maritimers) and has a sublime studio.  The collections were wonderful, and I ended up purchasing a lather bowl with an apothecary handle.  They had several on hand, but I really wanted one in Oatmeal, so I ordered it for delivery.  It usually takes a month, but Sara doesn’t normally make this one in Oatmeal, so mine will take a bit longer.  It's going to be a real pleasure using this bowl since I actually got to meet the creator.  She does everything herself, so my bowl will be made from start to finish by Sara.

Here are some photographs that I snapped at the studio.

Thanks so much for posting these photos. Sara's Moss Scuttles have been famous for years, and it's a joy to see photos of Sara and her workshop.

Those are great, thanks for posting, David.  I have had a number of different scuttles but have sold all except my favorite Moss in Anniversary Slate, which was the very first scuttle I got.  Sara's works are wonderful.

I love these photos, David. If I didn't already have three Georgetown scuttles (one of which I purchased from churchilllafemme), I'd buy one of Sara's.

Thanks for the great photos, David! I own a Moss Classic by Sara Bonnyman, and I think it is a wonderful piece of hand craftsmanship.

Great write-up. I’ve had my Moss Scuttle for over 10 years and I would be without it.; it’s the one shaving accoutrement I really miss when I travel.

I had one of Sara's scuttles until I accidentally banged it against the water faucet.  She does excellent work and I appreciate the review and photos.

I have the Texas Moss Scuttle, and I love it. In fact, now that I am thinking of it, I will use it tomorrow morning!

Thanks for posting the pictures, really interesting to see the shop!
