Wow, you certainly know how to mess with someone's brain. "Which child do you love more?" Wink

If I could only shave with one soap, I might have to go with B&M Latha Oceana. It has awesome performance, and has a great scent.

Maybe I'm in the minority but I just have a hard time understanding how such a good performing soap that is affordable and very popular and with nice scents like the Latha line simply gets discontinued! Latha was a strong performer!

Probably because some of us would buy the $11 soap instead of the $18 soap. If he can only make so many jars a day, the labor limitations become the issue not the cost of ingredients.

Funny thing is I found that the $11 soap performed just as good if not even better than the $16-$18 soap but unfortunately I do get your point. So bring back the Latha Will WILL-YA!!

MWF. The scent is neutral and would not get annoying after prolonged use. Performance speaks for itself.

This has been an interesting thread! It would be even better if we gave a few words on why we picked what we did - but not a numerical ranking or anything.

For me, many of the better Italian creams would do, but I'd choose Acqua di Parma Collezione Barbiere because I know the scent is light and unobtrusive enough that I wouldn't loathe it after 2 weeks and turn into a neckbeard. My particular complexion also 'likes' it. Performance-wise, other Italian creams/soaps would do as well.

Cheers, Steve

I’d be curious to know what size Thater that is. It was lucky enough to buy one just like this from the fine gentleman Michael a while back and it’s my favorite brush ever by a mile. I think mine is a 26mm. It’s a shame that Thater no longer makes this handle. I’ve often wondered if the geometry is the same as the 4125 except for the plexi part. Would you have any information. And sorry if advance if I’m detailing the thread. I’ll report back when I have a favorite soap and not just a favorite soap base?

+1
Having the why would help others to know if it’s something we might like to try as well.

That was a 28mm. I purchased a 28x52mm 2-band Shavemac with a plexi handle in shape #173 (octogon) to replace it (pictured below). You might reach out to a Bernd to see if he has any more clear material to work with - if you’re looking. I believe he makes the handles for thäter, but they are the same.

So you’re saying the Thater and Shavemac 2-bands should be similar in feel or just the handles?

The handles are the same. I just wanted a 2-band in a plexi handle, and Thäter doesn’t offer them anymore - so I commissioned one from Bernd.
