Hey guys my name is Ron. I was looking for some advice on shaving and found this forum. I have read some posts and everyone seems to be cool and easy going so I joined. Right now I have a goatee but think I might grow a full beard. I like my goatee but my skin is sensitive and it's always irritated after shaving. I get razor burn and ingrown hair so thinking to just let it grow. Right now I use a regular disposable razor but it irritates my skin. Anyways I will look through the forum but any link to past discussions would be great. Thanks guys!!!!!

Welcome to TSN, Ron! Enjoy your time on the forum and we look forward to your participation.

Carts are the biggest culprits as far as irritation/razor burn is concerned. There are many topics on razor burn, correct way to shave etc on TSN, do read they at your leisure.

Cheers!

Welcome to the discussion.

If you're in the South Loop area, be sure to check out Merz Apothecary adjoining the Palmer House.  The prices aren't bad, and they have a pretty extensive selection of traditional shaving equipment to fondle and inspect.  They also keep under the counter a big basket of blades for sale by the tuck, but you have to ask for it.  You could pick up a pretty good blade sampler.

Welcome to the group. As for the faceburn a good clean razor is a must as with a nice aftershave. If I'm feeling too close of a shave I use a balm when I'm done.

Welcome, Ron!  You'll certainly find a lot of helpful advice here to assist you in figuring out how to solve your shaving problems. I'm also prone to irritation and ingrowns. There are lots of potential causes (prep, technique, equipment, etc.).  With good prep (washing your stubble and wetting your face between passes) and good equipment (quality soap, brush, and razor), I find that I get my best shaves with a good, sharp blade.  For me, that's either a Feather or Personna Lab Blue DE blade. I don't push the Feathers past 4 shaves, and will use a Lab Blue for a maximum of 5.  As others have said, a good aftershave will also help, as would cleaning your razor in alcohol after you use it.

Good luck in finding your answer!
