Ok this is the first brush that I have bought in over 5 years. Only have two other brushes - Simpson CH1 and Vulvix Super Badger 374.
Bought the Simpson CH2 cuz the CH1 seemed a little small so figured would bump up the size to a CH2. By the way the Vulvix $50 brush
is very good. It lathers up very well compared to the CH1.

I am having problem getting a decent lather with the CH2. It all seems to stay in the brush. I face lather. The brush is super super dense.
Maybe too dense??? Anyway it seems like a lot of work to get this brush to lather. Maybe there is a break-in period? The handle size is great.
The butterscotch color is nice - but that doesn't help it lather.
Any suggestions?

Yes, more product. Also ime a well hydrated lather helps with flow through when using dense knots. Fwiw, all of my Chubbies really hit their stride after about a dozen shaves.

As has been suggested above, use a lot more soap.

It takes a handful of lathers for a Chubby 2 to really open up. As others have said, lots of water and really loading it up will help. For all my brushes, I like to start with a really wet lather and build my way into a creamy lather by face lathering as opposed to adding water as I go. I soak the Chubby for a minute and then leave most of the water in just squeezing it a little. I Ioad it up, most typically with Tabac, and it explodes with lather to the point that I hold some of the lather in one hand while I face lather with the other.

Great looking brush. Where did you find a Chubby 2 in best in butterscotch?

More usage will help to open it up and increase the flow, but you'll always use more product with a dense, large brush. More water helps too.

It was awhile back this year Simpson was selling some Butterscotch Chubby 2's from Best to Manchurian. Often they never make it to the page and you have to keep an eye on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and whatever other social media sites Simpson might use to grab it when you see it.

Ah, I figured that was probably the case, but WCS was selling Duke 3s in butterscotch for awhile, so I thought I might get lucky.

Yeah, I noticed WCS selling those Duke 3s recently! I was pleasantly surprised to see that and hope to see more of that in the future.

You could message Mark and see if he has any in stock at the moment, too. Never hurts to check. Well, it hurts the pocket book, especially if he shows you something else you just have to have...  Wink

CH-2's do hog the lather. CH-1 in Super has become my favorite Simpson and my favorite 3 band, but I do like the CH-2, especially the handle.

This was especially true of my Chubby 3. It’s a delightfully dense scrub machine now, but it sure took some patience until the knot really opened up.

There wasn’t a CH2 best in butterscotsch on the Simpson website so I sent Mark an email. He said there were a couple butterscotch available. Like this color a lot!

Of you don’t load enough soap, any brush will appear to “hog” lather. Easily fixed though - just start your shave like this:

Ha! Good advice and true on both accounts. Smile

Can't argue that. Even a CH3 has its limit.

As already said. More water and more soap. Takes time to get these large brushes down.

I have one. I rarely reach for it any more. Lather PIG. It doesn't yield very well. More product, yes, but there are limits.

I recently acquired a Chubby 2 in Super when WCS had their Simpsons sale and have noticed the brush freeing up a little as I continue to break it in.  I bowl lather primarily so I pinch some of the water out of the brush prior to loading and add more water back in as I go to get the right soap to water ratio.

I am not sure how this routine would be applicable to face lathering.

There's no such thing as too much soap...but there is such a thing as not enough soap.
