Either/or, makes no difference to me honestly. I just debate whether I have time for a 3 pass or a 2 pass shave. Both can be daily shavers and deliver a close and comfy shave. Perhaps, in the end I reach for the L2 slightly more than the L1.

I love my level 2, consider it to be still pretty mild, currently my favorite razor.

I haven’t tried the L1. When it came out, I waited for a more efficient plate to be released. I was rewarded with the L2, which holds its rightful place as my smoothest Gem-blade razor. If there were an L3 or L4, I’d be all over it, as the L2 is not quite efficient enough for my taste.

Haven't tried L1 as L2 is smooth enough for me.

I have the Sabre L1....In the hunt for the L2 base plate if anyone has it for sale. The L1 is smooth and glides, but wish it was more aggressive.

L2

I have a grisly, gray 64 year-old beard.  I have tried most every razor out there.  Most are not aggressive enough - A few are too aggressive but not many.  The L2 hit the sweet spot for me.  It doesn't feel aggressive on the face but it is remarkably smooth and efficient.  Almost like magic.  Everyone once in a while, just for fun, I will pull out another razor from the cupboard, but I quickly go back to the L2.  My RAD isn't dead just yet but it is on terminal life support.

In comparison to Oneblade, which plate shaves similar. I am contemplating to pull trigger on Sabre and can't decide between the 2 plates.

Am a daily shaver with sensitive skin. I have a gem junior n Clog Pruf and both shave me alright.

If you do well with the Clog Pruf, the L2 will suit you perfectly.  The L2 is a smoother and more efficient razor than the Clog Pruf.

I've had both, L1 was my preferred plate.  I've moved onto DE and Schicks but the Sabre L1 was by far my favorite SE razor.

I'd agree, the L2 Sabre has pretty much killed my RAD.  Can't imagine what could come out this year that would change my mind, except maybe a 2nd Sabre (if some new finishes came out).

Agreed.  As others have said the L2 is a very smooth razor. I hate the term game changer, but that's essentially what this razor is.  It somehow is super-efficient, yet extremely gentle/mild on the face and yet I still end up with a closer shave than any of my more aggressive razors.

I do a 3 pass shave every day, and my technique tends to get a sloppy with this razor because it is so forgiving.  I personally have no interest in trying the L1 because the L2 is so smooth and forgiving.

L2 on the Sabre is a smooth shave for me. I use it when the growth is a couple of days long. If it's longer and I still want to use a Gem, I use the SE-G with extreme caution, otherwise it's the 17-4.

L1 is probably closer to the OneBlade than L2 is. It’s mild, smooth, and extremely user friendly with very little blade feel. The L2 keeps much of those characteristics while ramping up the efficiency a couple notches. Blade feel is more noticeable than L1, but it’s still not an overly blade-forward design.
