Hello all,

I've noticed over the years while I still am adding to my collection I have a good amount of items I haven't used yet. I'm not talking about just a few days, weeks, or even a few months going by before using, I'm talking about some items I have going into years that are new and I just haven't used yet. Shaving soaps, brushes, some razors to an extent. I always mean to try to get into straight razor shaving but haven't found the right time yet and have the gear, but I just haven't gotten to it yet.

I figured posting here would be best as it covers the wide range of unused items that can be there. Has anyone else noticed themselves taking along time to getting to using a new product?

Not me. Except for restocks, I use a new product as soon as I get it.

Same here.  I use new razors and brushes immediately.  Backup soaps go into inventory.  I don't keep any razors, brushes and soaps which I don't use regularly.  If I don't like them enough to keep in my regular rotation, they get sold or given away.

More than I like to accept. In my defense most are variations of a similar razor or blade I have.

So in other words you don’t just collect gear for the sake of collecting. I generally feel the same way, however there are a few items on my shelf that were gifts from family which I’ll never get rid of despite not using them often.

This year in particular, my focus is on using what I’ve got vs. buying new. I’ve knocked out a number of balms, aftershaves, and a couple of soaps. Razors and brushes however, are either in or out.

For what I have the intent was to use what I have and not build a collection. It seems I've gone into collection mode as of late. Focusing on what I got now is definitely a good idea. It is nice to know it isn't just me this has happened to. I had a feeling I wasn't the only one.

I blame TSN for this. Before I joined TSN I had 1 relatively cheap razor, 1 brush and 1 soap. All of a sudden these well performing items aren't good enough and I need to have this new expensive razor as it is so much better.

After some further reading I realise that I need a more aggressive razor, even though my current razor is perfect.

What's that I hear? You have this fantastic new brush made out of unicorn hair, well I better get one of them as my brush obviously isn't good enough.

And so it continues until I am taking out another mortgage to fund my habit. And to think I got into this DE lark because carts were too expensive and I was told DE was so much cheaper!!

No demand or value:  my first good brush (22 mm Edwin Jagger Best) and EJ Mach 3 handle (no luck on eBay)

Low demand or value: 2 artisan made synthetic brushes with tall handles

Might be a good PIF: tub of various razor blade packs that came with razor or freebies and probably 40 Derby's

Sentimental and think about using: Goodfella OC (first nice razor - blade alignment) and Seygus aluminum (black coating dull or coming off)
Sentimental and backup:  Feather MR3 cartridge

May have two recent soap purchases I will not use (one is tester and I bought the final version, one is winter special edition impulse buy)

Watch BST for pictures and more info!!

Yes! Bought a few ceramic shaving scuttles looking for the perfect warm lather one and ended up with a plastic version from Phoenix Artisans that in my opinion far exceeds the usefulness and intended purposeof the ceramic versions! And it is lighter and not so easily broken. Plus in winter time it is easy to microwave and carry to the bathroom! Razors are fun and all work great. Variety is the spice of life?

Only back ups remain unused. And this appeals to razors as well, not only to soaps/ creams.

Back ups excluded. You've got a clear like for that item if you've bought backups. Now if you buy multiples and never use one of them once, that's just silly. Thankfully I haven't approached that category. Yet.  A6

I hear you Biggrin

Before I joined TSN, I didn't even know there existed gems like Charcoal, Timeless, Wolfman, Asylum, etc.

I could never imagine myself spending 200 bucks for a "simple" razor, and my wife would kill me if she knew what I paid for all the stuff sitting on my shelf. Luckily I have my own bathroom for shaving, so I can just smuggle some of the new aquisitions in, without her noticing.
