Gents,

Wholly Kaw is a great soap maker, and their shave soaps are stupendous in every regard, especially residual slickness!

Wholly Kaw’s Merchant of Tobacco is no exception!  The fragrance is intoxicating...I do pick up a little bit of honey and tobacco, but the overwhelming scent is that of a great, thick, and hoppy dark beer.  To my nose it dominates the scent profile, and I love it!

The aftershave is also quite enjoyable with just the right amount of sting and coolness!

Fantastic shave experience overall!!!

This shave soap/aftershave combo would be dynamite when complimented by the 18.21 Man Made Sweet Tobacco Spirits Cologne (sorry Claus...this stuff is made in Texas and they don’t refer to it as Edp or Edt!).

The tools I used for the shave were: the    AS-D2 Feather Razor with a Voskhod Blade, Semogue Boar Brush, Wholly Kaw Merchant of Tobacco Shave Soap, my trusty Doug Smith Pottery Shave Bowl, a Maggard Alum Block, and the Wholly Kaw Merchant of Tobacco Aftershave.

Enjoy the pictures!

Outstanding!

Everybody raves re ManMade - need try it

Wholley Kaw to me is definitely top 2 soap and tried them all, prefer Grooming Dept but have a couple tubs of Wholly Kaw Donkey Milk and never feel shorted when using it as opposed to anything else tried.

If I may add my two cents... The Wholly Kaw soaps with donkey milk are exceptionally good. Soaps by GroomingDept are absolutely fabulous. These are among my top 5 performers, others being Talbot, B&M, and Nuavia. There are a few different GroomingDept bases - my favorite is tallow+duck fat.

I bet duck fat + tallow is Super super slick! I will have to try it for my next shave soap purchase!

Depends on what you prefer: unscented guy so focus on bases. Find that all Grooming Dept soaps are great but they do differ substantially by base.

If you like a thick cushioned lather that is super protective, suggest duck or donkey milk base with the duck being even more hydrating than the donkey milk. If preference is to a super light barely there lather, then suggest the lamb or lusso with the lusso being the lamb on steroids. The beef and vegan base are quite good and a middle ground between the others mentioned.

My perspective is to use the lusso and lamb (but especially the lusso) as a late spring to mid fall soap then transition to donkey until midst of winter when switch to duck - akin to seasonal German beers from Ayinger (who am I kidding, drink Ur-Weisse year round -ha!).

As regards scents, am out of that game regarding soap, using all unscented for past 6 months. My perspective is Mo’s scents are very complex and many into such things speak highly of their sophistication. Given a preference, lean more to simpler scents of Wholly Kaw espec rose, lime, fougere and agrumes.

I'm a fan of Wholly Kaw, but I have a question: how much tobacco scent is in this soap?

It’s there, but certainly not the dominant scent!

I don't detect tobacco in this soap.  I'm continually disappointed with tobacco soaps which either don't have a tobacco scent, or are so sweet that the tobacco is lost.  If you want a true tobacco scent, Asylum Old Virginia is the soap to get.

Ricardo! Good-morning! You should try Australian Private Reserve Fenchurch. In my opinion it has an even better tobacco fragrance than Asylum Old Virginia, and the performance is top notch!

I'm going to have to give the Australian Private Reserve Fenchurch a try.  I was a little disappointed to hear that there was not much tobacco odor in WK.  I want something where the tobacco scent is rather pronounced.

I have not tried the Australian Private Reserve, but Asylum Old Virginia will definitely give you a pronounced tobacco scent.

I picked up a WK donkey milk (king of oud) from the BST, and it’s fantastic. I’ve used about 75% of it so far - as soon as I use it once, I stay with it for the remainder of the week. Very impressive base
