That absolutely looks delicious.  But I swear i felt my heart skip a few beats as I looked at those nicely browned brats smothered in cheese and sour cream.  And my cardiologist just stopped by and shut my computer down and told me "No looking."  And then he left without saying another word.  And proceeded to eat my 0% yogurt with a few blueberries.   Confused

Don’t forget the Italian peppers! They really make it!

They pair well with quite a few things...sometimes a nice porterhouse...sometimes ham and cheese sandwich....sometimes just bread and provolone!

That they do.  I made them to go with some Monkfish last week. Not necessarily Italian peppers but sautéed bell peppers with some herbs and seasoning.

Look up a recipe for Italian Pepperonata. It can be used for all the things already mentioned and can be cooked down into a sauce. It's wonderful on a sandwich mated with Italian sausage or meatballs. When I do that the sausage is a secondary item and the pepperonata is the star. No matter the recipe, tomatoes (or paste)  can be added and of course some crushed red pepper flakes.

I'm salivating at the thought.

1, There is just one correct way to prepare a self respecting Bratwurst: on the grill, preferably with lots of pine cones in the coal. Only a snowstorm is an excuse for using a pan in houseSmile

2, I pity all of you who don’t have access to real Bratwurst made by small butchers in a traditional way by hand, with old recipes, no chemistry and real herbs, spices and good meat. Best found in Northern Bavaria, towns like Bamberg, Coburg, Kulmbach, Nürnberg. Factory made Bratwurst, even those made there, is nothing but a sad Ersatz.
There are fine Italian salsiccia (pork, fennel, chili, salt - nothing else! Delicious!) well worth your investigation, but we are talking Bratwurst here.

3, Get some decent and classic mustard. French Maille, East German mustard from Bautzen, Austrian Mautner mustard with estragon.
In Austria you‘ll get chopped horseradish with mustard to go with your brat, do try that, too!
Putting ketchup on a Bratwurst is ... postmortem animal abuseSmile

Bamberg Bratwurst, less popular than Nuremberg or others, but different and delicious!
Really big brats with

I am grilling some beer bratz on the 4th, and thought of this post you genius! They won’t be done over pine cones, but my mouth is still watering just thinking of it!

Right now, I am in Franken/Franconia (home of great beers and likewise sausages of all kinds).
Just a week to enjoy all these things and meet my family.

A lot of Bratwurst & Bier has already been devoured, but no pics have been taken, so an old one will have to doSmile

My preferred method is a hot grill and using indirect heat, "roasting" until nice and dark, but not burned.

Probably the only ways not to make a brat are the most terrible ways of making a hot dog...boiling it or nuking it in the microwave. I just vomited in my mouth a little bit thinking about it!
