I'm looking to try out slants. I already have the rr 37 but I'm convinced they can be better. I know ikon makes several but haven't really looked into what the differences are. Leaning towards at&t's aluminum but wanted to ask for opinions. What's a "good" slant razor?
Thank you

Merkur 37, but that won't be much different from what you have already as RR cloned that razor for its 37 head.
Maggard slanthead is very nice as well, a bit more aggressive.
If you don't mind light weight, and you really shouldn't because these are some of the best razors in existence, het one of the PAA slants. The Bakelite OC slant is a clone of a well known time proven classic the Fasan, and the Alpha Ecliptic is one of the best slants ever.

How often do you shave in a week and how much beard do you need to take down each time first pass?

I use straight razors 95% of the time.  When I need to shave quickly and get out the door my exclusive razor is a Maggard's slant with a handle a made myself.  This gives me a better shave than any of the DE's I have.

Seems like the maggard gets pretty good reviews everywhere. I generally shave daily but takes a day off every week. There are times that it's only once or twice a week depending if I'm away from home.

Just shaved with a RR Wunderbar and it was a nice smooth efficient shave and I liked it.

I'd really like to get my hands on one of those. Great nothing but good things. Wonder if they'll ever be back in stock

I much prefer the Ikon X3 slant over the Merkur 37 because the X3 is much more smooth and even more efficient. My second best slant is the Above The Tie S1 in stainless steel but I do plan on getting the ATT aluminum slant head also. Very good razor. So I recommend both of these great slants that you are already thinking of, your definitely on the right track, good luck!

Happy Shaving!

I've tried a number, get a good shave from each, except I didn't enjoy the extreme light weight designs like the PAA or the vintage Fasans.  I'd suggest the Maggard's if you are just experimenting, can't beat that price and as members responding above it is a solid razor.  Once you decide you like it, this is my own particular order of preference of those I have ..

1- Att Slant on an Atlas handle.  Machined from solid SS, can't be beat
2 - Merkur 39C Sledgehammer Slant - I like them heavy
3- Hoffritz (same as Coles) Slant - vintage
4- RR Wunderbar
5- Merkur 37
6- PAA & Fasan - they are pretty near the same, just too light for my tastes
7-Ikon SS Slant

Thank you everyone, I think im sold on the at&t. Just wish they made a oc in aluminum. Pretty sure they don't, or I can only find it in ss anyway.
