This year's Dark Holler Jack shaving brushes will be available for purchase on a first-come, first-served basis (i.e., first-to-pay by Shopify's reckoning) beginning at 8:00 PM Central, October 1. The offering will remain open for as long as supplies last. All of the brushes included in this edition have Falstaff handles. We made five or six each of 24 mm and 30 mm brushes, and 13 each of 26s and 28s. For further details see https://www.paladinshaving.com/pages/201...n-offering.

Thanks. It's impossible to know how many to make of a brush like this. I wasn't sure we'd sell more than a handful or two. There was virtually no response to the photos I posted here or on a couple other boards. Couldn't read that.

Crossed my mind to wonder about that. In any case, I miss the engagement.

Next year, do a pre-order and you will not have to wonder how many to make. Just saying.

Thanks to shopify error, could not get the 24mm. Rather disappointed to have to wait again to year 3 to *maybe* be able to give you close to 200.00 for a brush.

There are issues with any approach to allocation of an offering for which demand might potentially exceed supply.

Limited editions are limited (or at least should be in our opinion). It wasn't our objective to make whatever number of Dark Holler Jacks we might possibly be able to sell.

You wanted a 24 mm brush. The price for a 24 mm brush in this offering was $160. I wouldn't round that to $200. There are a lot of less expensive brushes available for purchase. Our standard price for a 24 mm Butterscotch Falstaff is $140. That was the price we charged for 24 mm Butterscotch Falstaffs when we started making them in the first half of 2015. Our costs have gone up significantly since then. We don't think a $20 premium for a special edition brush like the Dark Holler Jack is unreasonable.

Pre-orders, to be reliable, require pre-payment. We generally don't accept pre-payment except in rare cases of custom-engraving in which brushes, if not purchased by whoever commissioned them, would not as a practical matter be salable to anyone else.

No one is under any obligation to buy one of our brushes at any time at any price for any reason.

Please describe the error you encountered in detail. It would be helpful for us to know whether anyone else has encountered the same error.

Not wanting to derail the thread, but from the answers you give to members in different occasions, I've come to the conclusion that you don't respond as a merchant/ businessman but rather as a passionate artisan.

I won't argue with that. Blush

The shopify error was something to the effect of "too many connections from your domain, please wait a few minutes and try again" when I refreshed the page at exactly 9pm EST. The wait a few minutes part was enough time to lose out on a brush since I could not refresh the page successfully for about 2 to 3 minutes. There were 26s and 28s available for about a minute when the page refreshed, but no 24mm since you only made half the number of them as the middle two sizes.

Thanks. We'll see if we can figure out what happened. I don't remember anything like that being reported before.

FWIW, we generally don't make very many brushes with 24 mm handles. In fact, we hardly make any. We haven't ordered knots for 24 mm handles since early 2016.

Also, there ended up being only four 30 mm brushes in this offering. A couple were withheld due to minor imperfections.

I'm really sorry you got skunked due to a Shopify error.
