I decided to start this thread on SV, in past you and I have commented on our love of SV, here and there. So, I've started this one.
Any thing Saponifico Varesino can go here.  OK ?
Today is Sunday, Sunday is always "SV SUNDAY" for me. Today was Mirto Di Sardegna, another amazing soap. I like the smell too,
heck, I like all of their stuff !! Just a great shave and a great start for my day.

For someone who has never used a SV soap- what scent would you recommend? I prefer earthy, woody, herbal scents over cologne type scents. Thanks.

Me too, so I'm also interested in opinions from the SV aficionados.

I have used several quality soaps and creams but when I tried SV I was proverbial blow away. Easy to lather, and i could face lather with this all day. Very protective and great glide. It makes my Rocca shine in its performance!
I have tried three (I don't buy more than 2 soaps to use in rotation).Dolomti, Felce  and now Cosmo. Dolomiti and Cosmo have the edge performance wise,    I think.
Favourite  is Cosmo. ......for performance and scent. I'm not good at describing scents, but this is described as having coffee notes. It may sound it will be musty, but it is really a refreshing change from floral scents, and does linger.

SV soaps leave my skin best its been, shaves close and skin smooth and soft.

I got SV 70 after reading a ton of great things and SV 70 is a superb performer and has me forgetting about SMN. Aroma/scent is difficult for me to describe other than I like it a lot.

I would suggest considering Mirto Di Sardegna, Flying Mango or Felce Aromatica. Manna di Sicilia may be something you like (scent) but I'm not sure if it would come across more cologne like. The first version reminded me in some ways to Terre D'Hermes and then when beta 4.3 was released, the aroma of the collective scent notes came across much more pleasant and aromatic.

Flying Mango was one I was strongly considering.

That's so easy...All except 70th Anniversary, which IS fantastic but not Earthy. Felce Aromatica, probably the most. None are really outdoorsy, woodsy.
They are wonderful, European, sophisticated scents.....Understated but they will fill your bathroom with a clean, fresh, manly scent.... Winky

I would say it has more of the herbal feel you mentioned with a bit of cologne or citrus floral in the mix as well. It was a bit polarizing in my opinion at first but again, these scents that were in the earlier beta formulas came across a bit muted or muddied where as the newer Flying Mango in 4.3, the scent is more clear.

I'll put my vote to the Flying Mango. I have to it's the only SV I've tried. But, hands down one of the best I've used in 10 years wet shaving. And, I don't think it's floral at all.

Saponificio Varesino is one of my favorites (all of them!)!!! I've tried all but Tundra Artica, and Mirto di Sardegna. From what I read, Mirto di Sardegna is supposed to be woody, which is unlike any of the others. I would suggest Dolomiti, it's a very mild scent, earthy and a very slight hint of floral notes, but VERY subtle. Is a top performer despite not being v 4.3 (which IMO is one of the best in the business).
