Why does alcohol based aftershave cause irritation for me? I get that it's the alcohol but why does it? Any input?

Is it actual irritation or just the burn you are referring to. If it’s the latter, it’s more than likely your technique. If your face turns red from the actual product maybe you have an allergy to alcohol? I had friends that had alcohol allergies, when they consumed they turned bright red, maybe similar?

Any specific brand? All brands? Which in particular?

Sting comes from the antiseptic qualities at work killing germs and coming into contact with freshly exposed layers of skin & micro-cuts. You can combine the effect with menthol, e.g., snakebite by fine accoutrements.

Irritation stemming from the aftershave, which I’ve experienced a few times, seems to originate from the fragrance IMHO. That said, if you have a bad shave - it’s difficult to pin the origin on the aftershave.

Sometimes an older blade with irritate my skin. Also a stronger alcohol based after shave will jolt me upright pretty quick. Try yourself a balm if you think there may be some extra burn you aren't wanting.

I sometimes use an Alum Block if the shave felt like it wasn't just perfect and then apply a soothing balm and you'll be loving life and a clean face.
