Hi Dave

As Lee stated it really is your choice to make...

But to give you some idea, here are two The Golden Nib Finest Badger (bulb) knots I've set myself:
I'm very happy with those two brushes and the chosen loft heights have worked out well for me...

Am planning to pick up a 22mm Two Band Finest Badger (bulb knot) sometime in the near future and currently plan to set the loft height somewhere in the 48 to 50mm range.

Good luck.

Take care, Mike

Edit: 24mm not 2tmm.

Let me give you more guidance.

For a 20mm knot, a normal loft is around 48-52mm.

For a 22mm knot, a normal loft is around 50-55mm.

The TGN knots are 65mm with a ~20-25mm glue bump. So, I would start at 15mm hole and go deeper from there. You can always drill a 20mm hole and then use quarter/washer/something to fill in the space to get a higher loft if you don't want to keep on drilling.

Guys, I set the 22mm Finest knot. Loft is 49-50mm. I'll try it out tomorrow morning.
Below is the pre-bloom brush. I'm happy with the look. Now, to see if I like a Finest, and one this big.

And here's the brush after use. I have to say I'm seriously impressed with this knot. It lathered Taylor lavender soap like a monster. I think I still might prefer a 20mm vs. the 22mm (small knot guy), but this is a killer brush and I'm really happy with the look.

I just got a brush with a TGN finest knot in it and it's enjoyable.

Glad you like it. What size knot did you get? What handle?

I think it's a 22mm and it's a Rudy Vey Butterscotch brush. It's softer to me than my SOC 2 band (which I love). The loft is a bit low on it though and that's my only complaint.

Lee, is it save to assume that the loft for an 18mm Finest knot would be 46-50mm?

I'm leaning towards 48mm.

Yes. That would be the normal range. It can range up to 52mm too.

48mm is a good loft given the total height of the knot.
