Gents,

I had a few moments of peace so I combined two of my favorite hobbies...I wrote out my favorite six soaps and creams on Tomoe River Paper using my Montegrappa Fountain Pen which was ground, flexed, and tuned by Pendleton Brown.

Feel free to add your top six as well!

Ron,

Thanks!  If I had made a list of seven, MWF would have been on it!  Fantastic stuff!

I hadn’t seen that waterman Brown!

Matt, you have great penmanship. Keeping a lost art alive!

My favorite 6 (ish) are B&M unscented (not Latha), Mike’s unscented, Shannon’s unscented, AoS/Valobra unscented, ASW Royal Fougere / Old Virginia and LPL oud-santal.

Thanks Charlie!

Shaving and writing with my silly little pens are my two zen activities. Between work and a big family, it really helps to slow down and focus on the perfection of one thing in one moment of time whenever I get a chance!

ARGH,

Sweet pen, and wonderful writing! I haven’t tried numbers 1, 2, 3, or 5...I need to work harder I think!

What ink did you use there?

Thanks!

I can't compete with that artistic penmanship, so here are my top 6:

Nuavia (Verde)

ABC cream

MDC Vetyver

Czech and Speake (both scents are great).

Santa Maria Novella

Captain's Choice Bay Rum

I used C&S 88 today, and love SMN! SMN is a top ten pick for sure!

Thank you, Matt! I am sure that you would really like all of those soaps. Unfortunately some of them (1 and 2 are not always easy to acquire). The ink is the Noodler's Red Black. I tried a few and this ink is one of my favorite. The other Noodler's ink that I also use very often is Socrates.

Cheers,
Alex

Can't go wrong with a BIC, right?

LOL

(No, this is not my normal handwriting)

Joking aside, these soaps are so good, that I have no interest in trying all these new soaps that we read about the last couple of years.

All are tallow-free, all are EU made, all have amazing scents, all give amazing shaves.

My penmanship is terrible but here are my favorites:

Grooming Dept - (especially their Incense & Rose)
Tallow & Steel - An outstanding soap with exceptional post shave.
Lisa's Natural Herbal Creations (new Premium version) - This is a relatively unknown at the moment but the new formula is outstanding.
PannaCrema Nuavia - Love the Nuavia Blue scent, maybe the best soap scent ever created.
Wholly Kaw (Donkey Milk version) - The Rose is excellent
Declaration Grooming - really great stuff as well.

Honorable mention:
Sudsy Soapery - this was my top soap for years, I really should try their newer formula
Barrister & Mann (Reserve Formula) - I don't care for the old school cologne scents but I'd love to get a tub of Fougere Gothique in this base.  Unfortunately their not making it now.

Fitjar Islands Soaps : sometimes, a soap which is difficult to lather but the output is fantastic both in slickness and after shave. I use the pre shave soap. It makes the shave closer.
Santa Maria di Novella Cream : I love the scent (Tabacco Tuscano + Camphre) and the lather is fantastic too
Martin de Candre : Easy to lather. A lather one's may want to eat. Great natural scents. Has a tendancy to dry the skin unfortunately.

Matt, it's the Meissner Tremonia. A great product. This German company makes a range of products. I've tried a few, all were great. Dark Limes, I still have this, is my choice!
