Hi there I have a question about boar knot. Where I can buy good quality like for example Semogue type hair. I bought from Whipped Dog and was ok but took very long time to break and softness is not like from Portuguese master.

The Golden Nib sell boar knots, but I don't have any experience with them.  Additionally, you can remove the knot from a new Omega boar and transplant it into a handle of your choice.

How do you remove a knot without damaging it? I've cut knots out of vintage brushes but they were trashed to begin with.

Golden nib is an ok boar knot about comparable to an omega. Certainly a passable knot. I have also harvested omega knots for placement into vintage handles but I destroy handles to do it. Carful hacksaw or dremel work frees the knot.

Go to YouTube and look for a video called "Removing a shaving brush knot" by HarryWally.  It will give you some ideas on removing an Omega boar knot.  You do have to destroy the handle, but your knot will be intact.

I highly recommend omega 49 to make donner. Cutting the plastic handle is real easy. Then set nice and low.
But, if you want to speed the braking in process, put it in a glass and cover its tips with tap water, then put it in the fridge for 3 days. You can take it out, wash and change water every 24 hours if you want, just to make sure you keep bacterial growth at bay. Works wonders and brakes in very uniform, more than just using it.
