Does anyone use or has anyone used Monsavon Bol a Raser soap? I just received a puck inside of a tub from a Canadian vendor and was pretty surprised when I opened it. It's advertised on the label as a 125 gram puck, I did not receive that or anything close to that. It weighed in at 39 grams and had a few brown spots on the bottom of the puck. It just looked shriveled up to me. It was sealed in a wrapper, so I'm not sure what happened.

Big difference between 125 and 39. Have you contacted the vendor?

To your question, I have no experience with this soap.

Something is wrong there.

I have, use and like Monsavon bol à raser. A kind friend of mine (Captain Flint) brought it from France. I have a bowl nearly at an end and another one still unused. The unused one weighs 132g.

What you describe is far from normal. Try to solve the problem with your vendor, but that almost sounds like a used puck.

I contacted the vendor prior to starting this thread, he offered a refund. Here is a pic from my phone.

That looks like a used puck of soap. Was it wrapped like this?

It was wrapped just like that, I'm not sure what's wrong with it.

It looks used but it was sealed, which is why I'm confused.

Well, the puck in your hand looks used, it's also more then 39g, maybe you should check the scale.

No, it is definitely 39 grams. The puck just looks big because I put the camera lens directly over it to try and show the brown spot.

I think it's just dehydrated. Even if its sealed it's not air tight. I had two bowls and left one unopened in my cellar for a couple of years. When I broke the seal it had shrunk like your puck on the picture. I'm using it now and it performes excellent.

I love Monsavon and don't understand why it still is such a pain to get hold of. If it had been italian all the online shaving shops would stock it.

A friend brought me a Monsavon from France. It was sealed and had a normal size and weight. But it was very soft and wet.

I have used the soap only 2 times and after some weeks it looked like yours. I was really surprised and it has almost the same weight as yours now.

I really doubt that 125g of soap would dehydrate down to 39g. Something is wrong there.

It could be a used, it could be a manufacture defect, I cannot tell. But that is not normal.
In your hand, it looks like a solid puck, and that is also strange, since Monsavon is a soft soap, very much like the old Proraso/Omega.

Here's a photo of my first puck:

And some more that I received afterwards:

Yes, the puck is hard. Do you have any pictures of the puck out of the tub? I can't find any online.

My Monsavon was not a soft soap?

HuhHuhHuhHuhHuh

What a strange stories about this stuff.

It is the only soap I have ever binned, to be honest.
Sure, it costs next to nothing if you pick it up locally, but I tend to think that life is too short for bad shaving soaps.

I would definitely like to see an unused puck, 125 grams compared to 39 grams is huge difference. Most likely just a manufacturing problem.

Here's mine, received about a year and a half ago. It does appear to have shrunk a tiny bit, though it's still very moist and pliable.
