An hour on the lathe to get out of the way and not being underfoot yielded a small spruce shaving bowl. Started with some leftover 2x4, finished with mineral oil and two coats of superglue finish.

It's tested and working well for lathering. It's admittedly a bit on the tiny side, but when you start with a 2x4 it's a limit to how wide it can be without spending the time to glue up a blank.

Some of you eagle eyed folks might have spotted it in my SOTD yesterday:

Ans yes; I'm fully appreciating the irony of using my home made brush and and bowl made out of scrap pieces of wood, a cheap and cheerful shaving cream that cost me less than a cup of coffee alongside a 200+ $ razor... got a really nice shave out of the combo though Wink

That's beautiful! The dark band connecting the two edges of the rim really changes it from bowl to little piece of art.

Well done Hans.  I did notice it in your SOTD photo and figured you had made it.  It can certainly be a prototype for a larger version.

Yeah, very nicely done. It can also serve as a puck holder I think.

Do you think you will try to turn a bigfer version of it?

Thank you for the kind words Gents Smile

I might make a larger version if I find a suitable piece of wood... and yeah, it might fit a puck of soap. Not sure how the superglue would react to long term exposure to humidity.
