When I search this forum there seem to be little mention of Crabtree & Evelyn soaps, especially lately.
Is there a reason for this, are they considered not worth the bother?

There are some youtubers who seem rather happy about them.

Current versions are subpar

Vintage soaps and creams are outstanding.

I have vintage C&E soaps in my regular rotation: For Men, Sienna, and Sweet Almond Oil.  All are excellent.

Hm, in this thread from 2014 you wrote "I got some Moroccan Myrrh balm, and it is exactly the same as the Nomad, just relabeled."

Were you then referring to the current formula of the Moroccan Myrrh, or has the formula changed since then?
Is the "Nomad" you mentioned one of the vintage ones you and Steelman mentioned?

EDIT: wait I just noticed that you talked about the "balm" in the 2014 thread so maybe that did not apply to the soap?

Right, I was referring to the balm.  I may be incorrect, but my understanding is that all the Nomad labels were discontinued and replaced by the Moroccan Myrrh label.  The soaps that I use are all tallow-based, which I prefer.  There has been a more recent non-tallow version of the Sienna soap.  I don't know if Nomad soap was ever made in a tallow formulation, but I suspect it probably was.

I wondered the same thing a couple weeks back when I came across some older C&E Sandalwood in a box. I'd been using SV Colonia for a month prior so switching to this was, meh, kind of "why did I do this".LOL  It doesn't have the glide and the lather produced isn't anything to write home about. But, I'll continue to use it to burn my stash until the puck gets small enough I can then use it for bath soap.

Ok, gotcha. Thanks.

Older C&E soaps were EXCELLENT...
I have Sweet Almond Oil, Mysore Sandalwood, Sienna, and Nomad... With backups of each.

At some point they switched the formula and they were completely crap... did not lather at all.

Then, they switched the name of Nomad to Moroccan Myrrh. Still terrible.

Then, they switched the soap formula and it became usable, but IMO, not great still.

If you can get some old stuff, go for it, but I'd say pass on the current stuff.

----
Old creams were excellent too. The current creams (assuming they are still made, I don't even know) are good but not like the old ones.

Thanks, that explains it. After starting this thread I found a youtube video (by PaulHFilms) where he fails miserably to get a good lather with the Moroccan Myrrh. Even I with my lack of experience could see that it was not performing at all. The video was from 2015 and I don't know where that fits into your timeline but I suppose that might have been when the formula was crap.
I'll pass on the soap as you recommended. I have a Saponificio Varesino in the mail, heading my way, instead.

I have the good veggie versions, off top of my head I can't remember if that's sodium or potassium first on the ingredients list. Most I also have the cream as well. Nomad, Sienna,  Goats Milk, For Men and Lavender.

Ditto.

The potassium palmate newer version performs well.

So the one with Sodium Palmate first in the list is the bad one? Did I understand you right?

As the old saying goes, ‘Smoke ‘em while you got ‘em.’ A quick search would indicate that they’re going out of business. Plenty of links but not sure if I can post them.

Cheers, Steve

If one can find them (the potassium palmate ones), they're a great value when sale-priced.  Quality triple milled soap in a nice wooden bowl.

Unfortunately I can only see the sodium ones. Perhaps the stock of the older ones are already gone.

Current creams (well, current like 4 years ago when I tried it) were mediocre as well.

My local C&E store has been pretty much empty all day, every day apart from the Christmas period... It's now closed with a "to let" sign in the window. It seems not only had the product quality slipped in recent years but I daresay the final nail in the coffin was the fact their main demographic is steadily declining i.e. dying! As they were unable or unwilling to try and attract some young blood to their customer base they've paid the price. Even the notoriously obstinate old French perfume houses such as Guerlain have had to modernise to avoid becoming irrelevant in today's world.

I haven't tried any of their shaving soap offerings, but I do have a West Indian Limes shower gel, smells great!
