Gents,

I just had a really nice shave.  I can say unequivocally that the Barrister and Mann Reserve Lavender is the best and most refined lavender fragrance to my nose.  When I think lavender...I don’t think female scent...I think refined gentleman wearing a well constructed and tailored suit.  That is what I get from this fragrance, and I love it.  I even have the splash and Edc which extends the scent of the soap/splash a little bit longer!

Regarding the soap...is it good...ABSOLUTELY...is it elite...not to me.

The fragrance is amazing, and all aspects of the soap are solidly good...none of them make me think “WOW!”  I was able to achieve a nice and irritation free BBS shave with the usually three passes and an extra for touch up!

Two other points I would make...this is a very soft croap, and it is easier to load the brush on the puck than scooping it to press into the bottom of a lather bowl, as I usually do.  The other point that is interesting to me is that at the end of the shave there was no soap scum on the rinse dish, or my razor.

Tools of the shave:

Soap:  Barrister and Mann Reserve Lavender

Brush:  Paladin Chief with 28mm knot...this brush is my instant favorite...I love the handle, the knot is top tier all the way, and it feels amazing on my face and neck!  This thing hides lather in the badger hairs...it’s GREAT!

Razor:  Oneblade Blackblade

Post-Shave:  Sebum Purple...a lavender and mint concoction of oils that makes my face feel amazing!

Enjoy the pics!

The B&M Reserve line has an excellent soap base. I have it in Cool (Floïd Blue clone) and the lather was truly fantastic, the remainder of the Reserve line is high on my list. The lavender sounds like a very well made scent.

Nice kit.  Nice lather.  But I think I see a cavity forming on your biscupid premolar.

We appear to disagree on this one...

I think that's my least favorite (and most unnatural) lavender of any I've smelled and definitely my least favorite scent in the Reserve line. (This could change, maybe I'll like it more when Spring rolls around. My nose/preferences change with season/weather.)

I also think the Reserve base is one of the best.

But that's what makes the world go round. And more proof that ya just don't know till you try it out yourself.

Matt,

I am sorry that you don’t enjoy the fragrance. What is your favorite lavender soap...I will have to give it a try.

Have a good one!

That's a good question!
I like the RR Essential Oil of Lavender. Beautiful, deep and somewhat dark and still fresh at the same time. Made with lavender essential oil from the foothills of the French Alps.

I have the previous formula which is vegan with argan oil.
They switched to their Super Tallow formula for their latest batch. That formula contains lanolin so I won't be buying it, as that doesn't ever work for me for some reason.

Btw, there have been days that I did enjoy the Reserve Lavender, but for my general tastes it is a bit too sweet for a lavender to me. Ymmv of course!

Correction... It's not Super Tallow formula...
It is Super Formula (and no tallow in this one)

For those who like lavender, Mike's Hungarian Lavender is excellent.

Mike’s Hungarian Lavender is a very nice smelling lavender as well, but I do enjoy the Barrister’s Reserve a touch more. I also feel like it provides just a bit more protection during the shave.

They are very close in my opinion!

I have a tub of the Mike's Hungarian Lavender as well and really like it. But this thread is reminding me that I have a sample of the Lavender Reserve from B&M that I received over 6 month ago and that I still haven't tried it. Got to give it a shot.

Will give it a try later this week when I'll received my two new razors.

And as long as we're talking lavender, I think Fine Lavender Pour Homme is great too. How about MdC's original? Not too shabby. Mystic Water Jeff's Lavender...nice, and while the scent of this next one isn't as robust as the rest, vintage AoS Tallow lavender has probably the best soap base of all mentioned heretofore.  Biggrin
